I hope the Rangers and Flyers play at some point in the playoffs just to see their coaches duke it out:

For the second time this season the NHL has assessed a significant fine to New York Rangers coach John Tortorella.

The league announced Tortorella will be docked $20,000 for his postgame comments after the Rangers' 5-2 loss in Pittsburgh Thursday.

Tortorella blasted Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik for his hit on center Derek Stepan, calling it a "cheap" and "dirty" play.

But the rant did not end there.

Tortorella also called the Penguins an "arrogant organization" and ripped them for their two "whining" stars, referring to Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby.

Penguins coach Dan Bylsma called Tortorella's rant "gamesmanship"

Tortorella was fined $30,000 back in January for criticizing the officiating in the Winter Classic.

After Lavy and now Torts, no one seems to like the Pens.

Not an issue. I hate all of these West Coast sonzabvtches.

Although I must confess, I was a Kings' band-wagoner when they acquired Gretzky and made the cup run.

Really? Why all the hate? Lol. Either way good series coming up.

Detroit was just in the finals in 08 and 09, it's not their fault you suck.

I just need to find the bastard who isn't giving me a check because I didn't know I was supposed to dress for the Flyers...

Congrats, we all know Detroit has been amazing for like 25 years; doesn't change how awful you were before that.

and Philly was just in the finals in 2010, yeah we lost, and it sucks. But you know what, i appreciate the fact that my team consistently puts a competitive team out on the ice, that i'll always watch ATLEAST one round of playoff hockey featuring my team, and that we have the second highest regular season winning %.

Grasping at straws, you say? Well my team hasn't won a cup since '75 of course i'm gonna be grasping at straws!:p

Careful, if you start mentioning actual numbers or stats, you start to blow fuses in most of their heads. Just a word of caution. Try not to get to in depth on anything as getting a point for an overtime loss/shootout seems to be a stretch for most.

Hahahaha. Once again, the irony is freaking delicious. You couldn't see it when you said that Pens fans were of course going to be biased towards their own team and thus not see the supposed slanted calls IN THE SAME PARAGRAPH that you, as a Flyers fan, claim to watch it all "objectively" (despite being the most biased one here *by far*)... and now you apparently fail to see that the only one who has their panties in a twist is in fact yourself, with everybody else having a laugh at your expense.

It's just hockey man, relax. And for a Canadian to say it's "just" hockey should tell you that you take it way too seriously. People are just getting tired of the constant complaining of bias. Sure, there are bad calls that are going to seem unfair, but that happens to every team. Difference is that the rest of us don't make some huge conspiracy out of it to whine about incessantly. Maybe you're just making excuses for your team in advance of potentially poor performances? Either way, it's getting real old. Friendly/competitive trash talk is one thing, but the whining and poor sportsmanship takes all the fun out of it.

I hear you, but it's funny how quick people turn from just a discussion to down right viscious when you questin their team in any way shape or form. Hell, I bet someone will try to kill me or use some sort of hacking attack on my router or computer for saying that most (if not all) species of penguins are not capable of flight. That's fact, not open for debate, but someone will take offense.

And again, not a single person has made a respectable post about the videos comparing the hits and their different responses from officials. I honestly couldn't care less about the Flyers being involved. I just find it ridiculous that we have the level of technology and the number of cameras in the game these days and we can be consistent in how the plays are called or supplementary punishment is handed out. Shanahan has been a disaster this year when it comes to being consistent with punishment.

And for as much whining and crying about my posts lately, this thread is probably more active now than it's been in the last 6-12 months. So even if it turns into a bit of a **** show like a twister in a trailer park, it's still entertaining. I prefer a little more discussion of the game than the Jerry Springer crap some of you have turned it into, but, it's more active than hockeyforum.com.

I wouldn't put in past a Philly fan...

Coming from a fan who probably has thrown organic matter onto the ice on more than one occassion for no other reason than everyone else was doing it. And now the Vancouver ****** bags want to throw fish on the ice like they're original. We just throw fans into the away team's penalty box in Philly.

Plus smoke bombs and 'slightly off topic' batteries.
Do you even think before you post?

The reason the thread is thriving is it's playoff season and everyone's Ready to start busting there opponents fans balls.
Just so happened that you being the most frequent poster in this thread and an easy target where first on the chopping board.

90% of the Penguins fan base had no idea that hockey existed in Pittsburgh prior to 2005.

Leeds1 - This one is getting old. Please tell us, as a Flyer's fan, about your hockey expertise and history! We all want to be amazed and are humbled by your (and the entire Flyer's fan base) knowledge of the sport!

Sooooo, who is stoked about that Florida / New Jersey series??

Yea, no one.

Can we all agree on the fact that the NBC broadcast sucks compared to the local broadcast? I don't know if it's like that everywhere, but it sure is true in STL. I try to pick which games to attend based on that. Pierre McGuire is a moron. Where's Melrose, Don Cherry, or John Buccigross???

Mickey Redmond and Keith Daniels are great! Bingo bango!

Hell yes Bingo Bango, or how about Murph's "Blow dart" comment when someone goes down?! I can't wait for Wednesday, these might be the closest playoffs yet. I am really hoping Philly puts it to Kidney and the Penguins. GO WINGS!!

What does my "hockey expertise and history" have to do with the fact the Pens fans are nothing but bandwagon yinzers who didn't know hockey existed in Pittsburgh prior to 2005?

Well, you seem to think you have expertise regarding the Pittsburgh fan base. Tell us all about your expertise, we await your wisdom. Or you just another a-hole from the Gettysburg area who occasionally goes to the "big city" (that would be Harrisburg to see the Bears) to see a game?

The truth. It hurts.

ahem, the bears play in Hershey ... see you pens fans don't know anything!;)

Haha, is it wednesday yet ... I'd like to actually talk about the games!

Very good. :) Yes, I know where Hershey is, have been there quite a few times (have friends that live around there). But still, great comeback.

Here's something to get y'all going: NHL.COM predictions:
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=626836

I don't know whether to be happy that 5 of 7 of the NHL.com writers picked the Penguins over the Flyers or to be worried given idiot writers. NHL.com international staff picked the Pens over Flyers 4-2, and both the Network Analysts picked the Pens over the Flyers.

Since Kimelman and Morreale picked the Flyers, I think the NHL should fine them and force them to publically apologize to the Penguins. :)

In further breaking news, jtkratzer has taken a poll of the officials, and now has further evidence that the NHL is out to get the Flyers.

You probably should be worried. The Flyers never do well when they're considered the 'favorite'. Just look at the Boston series last year ... compared to the year before that.

Pitt, IMO, is easily the favorite. Best player in the league this year, best player in the world coming back to one of the hottest teams in the last month of the season.

This one will definitely come down to the Goalies, and for once, the Flyers are pretty equal there, assuming Month of March Bryz shows up.

The two 4v5 matchups should easily be the most entertaining.

with that said, enough of the niceties:

I love Crosby but that pic is hilarious.

I can't wait for the NHL to screw up the awards again. Erik Karlsson for the Norris is a joke. The guy is glorified power play specialist. Supposed to be best overall d-man. Chara, Pietrangelo, or Weber should get it.

Coming from you? That's funny. I actually post stuff to discuss rather than blabber out insults and bullsh*t about who is the superior fan.

Scott Burnside always picks the Pens, over anyone. Every analyst wants a ******* from Crosby's purdy mouth. Look at the picture previously posted.

Flyers are rarely picked as favorites, usually because of the goaltending and injuries are part of it this year with Pronger out. This is going to be the most interesting matchup in the first round based on the hatred, the records, and the statistical similarities. Should make for great hockey.

I'm happy to Grossy signed to an extension and that he and Briere are going to be ready to go tomorrow night.

I'm just waiting for someone to put a big hit on Crosby or Malkin, knocking one or both out of the game/series and seeing the vitriolic screaming hissy fits about how "dirty" the Flyers play after Vitale's hit on Grossman and the how all the analysts are talking about how tough the Pens are this year.

I can't wait for tomorrow.

Nashville/Detroit and Van/LA are the two in the West I'll try to catch. Ottawa/Rags should be a good one.

Bwahaha....you can't even bust balls correctly. Typical idiot yinzer, keep up the good work.

Chara? Christ, do you even watch hockey? Chara has not had a Norris quality season.

Weber? Who does he play with again? Oh ya, Suter, who deserves it more than Weber.

Pietrangelo? Obvious homer is obvious. He's +16 (on a defensive team), just like Karlsson, but with a little more than half the points.

Karlsson? Best offensive d-man since the Paul Coffey days.

If Karlsson was as bad defensively as people see to think he is, based I assume on last year's play, I would agree. But he's not that bad. Have you even seen him play or are you just parroting what the St Louis media is telling you? He plays against the oppositions top lines, dummy. He is not a "glorified pp specialist".

Norris trophy is not for the best defensive defenseman. It's for the best all around defenseman. EK's decent defensive play combined with absolutely mind blowing offensive play makes him the best alll around defenseman.

EK doesn't play the pk for a good reason, btw. If he is a beast on the PP and at even strength, why would you play him on the PK? That's just smart coaching.

Do yourself a favour and smarten up before posting about things you obviously don't know much about (aka hockey. Isn't there a baseball thread you should go yap in somewhere?).

Wow, this is your comeback?

The series is going revolve around the officiating, Bettman and the NHL have made that perfectly clear.

I see you are already getting the excuses ready.

Edit: I'm feeling a repeat of the 09 series...Pittsburgh in 6.

Here's a stat for ya.

Karlsson averaged 0:33 per game on the PK

Weber 2:16, Pietrangelo 3:12, Chara 2:43

Giving the Norris to a guy who isn't trusted by his coach to kill penalties would be a travesty.

+1. The 1st priority for a defenseman is to play defense.
