We'll see all the b*tching when the Flyers come to Pittsburgh and bring Talbot and Jagr with them. Then we'll see who's whining.

Lol I don't even care if they beat the Pens or not. I know how the Flyers do in the playoffs.

the Flyers were the ones bitc4ing the other night when Tampa Bay wouldn't bite on their stalling BS. Look how that worked out for 'em.

Stalling? Really? Everyone who knows anything about the game knows it was the Bolts doing nothing just standing around not even trying to attack the puck carrier. When you have a player that's not even close to leaving his own zone, not talking about the goalie, that's a joke.

That was worse than the Devils' trap of the late 90s early 2000s.

OK, other than winning the Cup once in the last couple years, the Pens haven't done much of anything since the early 90s. This is a franchise that all but folded. It took how many years of drafting number 1, Lemiuex coming out if retirement and dumping millions of his own money into the team and it still almost leaving Pittsburgh, for this team to do anything other than attract fair weather and bandwagon fans?

Overall, the Pens have to have the most uneducated and uninformed fans of any team that is located in a climate that seems natural for hockey. Most don't know what a two line pass is since they only started watching after Crosby was drafted. Most have no clue what icing is or the rules surrounding it.

It's miserable trying to listen to the Pens home broadcast. Those guys are idiots and are just terrible homers.

"attack the puck carrier"?

That's such a load of bull****. I guess every time an NFL defence doesn't blitz they are commiting some kind of atrocity then?

YOU got the puck, YOU try to score. Simple.

There's 2 guys in the Philly zone. Why bother sending a guy in, when they'll just pass it and rush up the ice, leaving me with my forechecking forward in the lurch? Believe me I hate trap hockey and think it's boring as hell, but this idea that it's Tampa's responsibility to move the play along while they are defending Philly's "attack" is absurd. The trap is not 100% unbeatable. Instead of sitting in their own end whining about it, why doesn't Philly try to actually do something?

And you know what's a good way to beat the trap? Not trading your top 2 centres to sign a greedy goalie.

Yeah, and with players like St. Louis, Stamkos, and Lecavalier, you don't play the trap unless your entire team sucks at defense, is slow, or lazy and can't get back into the play.

No one pays money to watch a team stand around and wait for the play to come to them.

Terrible comparison to the NFL because there are two ways to move the ball, run or pass and the blitz comes with its risks.

Tampa Bay isn't the second highest scoring team in the league by playing the trap. They didn't even play the trap to force a pass and split the rink in half the way NJ used to. They stood back and waited for the play to come to them and clogged the neutral zone with 4 players.

I can't really say any more about it other than those who get paid to talk about the game and analyze don't agree with you or the Lightning.

This from the fan base that boos Crosby when you aren't even playing the Penguins. How sad. Get some new material btw. You already posted this baseless rant a few pages back.

I do find the announcers very homer-ish. Not as bad as the buffalo guy, but still pretty bad.

I can't stand our tv guys. The radio crew is great but I can't deal with it being out of sync.

You know come to think of it I have NEVER heard someone after watching a sporting event say man those announcers were awesome. Seriously.

Lordy, you don't actually listen to that bvllshvt do you?

I'm not gonna wade into the trap debate, but if you rely on the talking heads for your hockey opinions you're head is likely to be full of disinformation.

(how was that for trash talk?)(evil grin here)

Yes, I really miss Mike Lange on the TV broadcasts. A long time ago, before Al Gore invented the internet, and before things like NHL center ICE and things like Dish Network and Direct TV I lived in no-where's ville NY. In those dark days, I would listen to the Penguins games on KDKA 1020 radio, which I could actually receive (after sunset). Even without being able to see the game, Mike Lange was riveting.

Yeah, he just keeps going on about it, especially with the two-line pass comment. I wonder how many real, live, professional games he's actually been to as he sits back and comments on those fans actually being there and supporting the team with real $.

I'd guess the truth of the matter is that the fan base everywhere is less-hockey educated than 20-30 years ago. This is to be expected - being at a live NHL game has become much more expensive and more of an "in" thing requiring serious $. I was lucky in a lot of ways - the NHL had just expanded and we (my friends and I) were able to see them play on the cheap.

When exactly does that happen?

Actually, someone else brought it up, but nice try.

They're miserable, to the point that I can't even bring myself to watch the game because I hate it being on mute, but the broadcasters are so terrible, I can't even watch any game they're doing, and I love hockey, any hockey, just not any game when the Penguins' homers are doing the game.

You know come to think of it I have NEVER heard someone after watching a sporting event say man those announcers were awesome. Seriously.

Not that they're awesome, but at least honest about their own team's capabilities, performance, etc. Being able to be critical of your team when they suck, calling it what it is when they do something stupid, etc...just not being a complete, mindless, blind homer. I enjoy broadcasts when the play-by-play is fair, honest, and equitable in the evaluation of the game and both teams. The Pens television crew is completely incapable of such.

Lordy, you don't actually listen to that bvllshvt do you?

That wasn't my point or the direction I was going, I was simply pointing out that none of the analysts, who actually played the game at a competitive level, don't see the Flyers being the ones at fault, but that they were making a statement that Tampa's choice of how to play the game was a joke.

James F Neal gets his 11th on 11/11/11. Forget about it Stars.

I have him on my fantasy roster, I'll take it.

Again, way to read what someone else posted and mindlessly post it (the two-line pass comment).

Nice assumption, but I played the game for over 20 years, starting as a kid in Minnesota. Played competitive hockey beyond school. I get to at least 10 games a year.

I've been to games in at least 10 cities, a number of those games weren't Flyers games. Driving 8 hours to a game in Montreal in December because it's supposed to be an awesome venue and a sight to see.

This thread should be about discussing the game/trash talking the game, not insulting each other.

OK, peace.

With a 9 year old, it''s a bit harder to do. We have a local AHL team (Albany Devils) and my son has over the last few years become a hockey fan (because of dad). While it's difficult to travel from Albany with him for NHL games, he loves it when I take him on a road trip to see other AHL teams. I the past year, besides the local devils AHL team, we've gone to see the Adirondack Phantoms (Flyers), Binghamton Senators (Ottwa Senators), Wilkes Bare Penguins (Pittsburgh's), and just tonight the Rochester Americans (Buffalo Sabres). He's also been to Consol Energy (Pittsburgh). Yeah, I know it isn't the NHL but the distances are closer and for him it is just as good.

We do also want to make road trips to see some NHL games, especially if we can get there by train (he's also a train nut), and NYC (Rangers), Newark (Devils), both of which are easily accessible by Amtrak. I think Montreal, Philadelphia, Washington are also able to be done without renting a car in the destination city. Not sure about Toronto or Buffalo.

One of his goals is to see a game in every venue (NHL AND AHL).

You can cab it or take public transportation in Toronto, no problem. Not sure why you think you'd need to rent.

Plus, there's the bonus of Toronto being the only NHL team with its AHL affiliate in the same city. And the venues are really close to each other. You could kill two birds with one stone, for your son's goal :)

Thanks. Just wasn't sure. I've been to Toronto a number of times, but it has been a while (like about 5 years) and I've never been to a game there. Drank plenty of beer there though. :D

It's awesome to see hockey at just about any level. I saw a Reading Royals (Kings ECHL team) and saw Jonathan Quick play. I've been to quite a few Royals games. Had a friend work their and had the "privilege" of being intermission entertainment a few times. The Hershey Bears are about 40 minutes out and I used to watch them when they were affiliated with the Avalanche.

It was awesome when the Phantoms were in Philly with the Flyers. It will be good to have them back in Pa in Allentown in the future.

It's good to have dedicated fans that get passionate about their teams. It's be nice if I had more people close by to watch games with and drink beers.

One of my best friends is a Rags fan and we try to get to a Flyers/Rangers game in Philly or NY every year.

You all should check out hockeyforum.com for all your hockey forum needs.

And you can definitely do Amtrak and SEPTA to do a Flyers/76ers/Phillies/Eagles game. That's one of my favorite aspects of Philly sports. All the venues are right next to each other.

Saw a Phillies game at 1 and Flyers playoffs game against the Devils when Carcillo scored the OT winner back to back on the same day a few years ago.

Actually (and the the only reason I know this), they are an affiliate for the Leafs and the Toronto Marlies. And apparently the Bruins as well.

Reimer actually played for the Royals... it'd be nice to see him back in net.

Blah blah blah....

HAHAHAHHAA you don't actually listen to those pukes, do you? And then you somehow think what they say means anything??? You had a little credibility until you said this.

They are paid because they can read stuff off a screen and look natural doing it. That's all.

What sport is there where it is the responsibility of the defending player(s) to "keep the game moving"? I really can't think of one. Again, the trap is not unbeatable. The Flyers should just clean the sand out of their vaginas and beat it. Just because it's difficult or not the style of hockey they want to play doesn't mean they should be huge babies about the whole thing.

That must have change in the last few years while I was away as they used to work with the Kings. It did. Just checked, 2008.

You obviously don't read all pertaining posts before posting. I specifically said that wasn't my sole source of information and you can't honestly say you don't listen to any analyst, read any recaps, or listen to any talk about hockey other than what goes on in your brain...that's a pretty arrogant statement.

You're just upset and have your panties in a twist because no team from Canada has won Lord Stanley's Cup since 1993 and it's Canada's self-proclaimed sport. Keep trying.

You're also upset because it's been since 2009 that Canada has won the U20s and it's three years in a row the American's have won the U18.

Haha, my panties are just fine, you're the one getting all butthurt over a defensive strategy. I listen to the analysts, and read articles - who wouldn't? I'm just saying that just because they say something doesn't mean it's the friggin' gospel. You said that because many analysts agreed with your point that it must be correct. I said you had legitimate opinions there, but then you killed them by saying that because some jackoffs on TV say something, it's true.

Since I am unable to form a coherent essay right now, here's a bunch of randomness:

As for your other asinine assumptions about me: If a team is going to bring the Stanley Cup back to Canada, I want it to be the Maple Leafs (yes, I am aware that's a joke in and of itself). Last year I was actually -gag- hoping that Boston beat those pansy-assed Canucks and they did. Solid. Yay Kaberle. Most players in the league are Canadian anyway, so who really gives a ****? The only people who think Canadians care about Canadian teams winning are Americans.

The U20? Really? You know what was boring? Watching Canada win it 5 years in a row. You know what's exciting? Watching an annual tournament where there are 3-4 legitimate competitors. Please.

Funny you left out the Olympics in your little Canada vs. USA tirade there. But hey - might as well be selective.

Self-proclaimed, huh? Hmm. Well, if it's not Canada, then who really dominates hockey? Where else on this planet has so many people playing the sport? Just to fill you in, it's extremely difficult to get ice time in this country. And if you want something between the hours of 17:00 and 22:00 any day of the week, forget it.

Aaaaaaanyhoo - I'm excited to watch 2 non-trap teams battle it out this evening while enjoying some brews. That's right, the lucky Leafs take on a crappy Sens who just got spanked 5-1 last night. Should be entertaining at the very least.
GO LEAFS GO!

Olympics? Both teams each have two golds since 1960. Women's is pretty right as well.

You're just saying I have no credibility or ability to formulate my own ideas because I agree with a group of analysts when you disagree with their and my opinion. If they were in agreement with you, you probably would be trying to throw that in my face.

Every person I've met from Canada will cheer for the Canadian teams over the US until they're eliminated. Just look at the bias on TSN.

If you haven't noticed, hockey is pretty much everywhere. Yes, Canada has more than anywhere else and should dominate the numbers, but they don't dominate the championships at all levels of play. The Cup, gold medals, etc...people act like they're entitled to them because they invented the game.

Bullsh!t...
I would cheer for the nazi's hockey team over the leafs.

And really?!?!?! Canada does dominate the Stanley cup. Just because a team of 75% Canadians plays in a US city does not make that team any less Canadian .....
