I will never understand the obsession with football. To me, it's boring as hvll.

5-10 seconds of action followed by a half minute of standing around doing nothing. Maybe if the didn't constantly go to a huddle it would be palatable. As it is, with the replays and endless, inane yammering from pretty boys, I'd rather watch reruns of M*A*S*H.

Had a cousin was visiting in the fall and insisted on watching a game. I was obliged to let him. I grabbed a pad of paper and tracked the number of plays vs commercials. It was dead even after the first half.

All sports are boring if you don't understand the strategy or the hard work that goes into each play. And if you can't stand 40 seconds between plays then you must have adult ADHD.

I DO have adult ADHD (predominately inattentive-type) and I enjoy football specifically *because* of the strategy of the game.

Comparing game time to commercial time is laughable though. A 60-minute regulation NHL game magically ends about 150+ minutes after it starts, last I checked.

Uhhhh... both games have 60 minutes on the clock, football games last 3+ hours.

Crosby going to get suspended or even fined for the cross check/boarding tonight?

Wait, WTF was I thinking? He'll get another endorsement for playing in more than 5 straight games.

Fleury couldn't finish, Bryz out with a bone chip/fracture in his foot...it could be a battle of the backups in the first round for the 4 and 5 seeds.

With 34 minutes of intermission time. It's usually about 2.5 hours including intermissions. Not that bad...

And I had ADD growing up and loved playing hockey.

Maybe I'm not enough of hockey nut (like you are apparently), but I don't ever like players getting hurt, regardless of what team they are on. I don't even want any of the Rangers to get hurt.

If it was the other team, I would not approve. Teammate, i find amusing............

Symptoms of a meltdown?

Thanks for the link. I agree, system is pretty flawed. Pretty bad when the likely best series in the whole playoffs (Pittsburgh vs. Philadelphia) will be in the first round and the winner will likely come out of the series "bruised". I like the idea of top 16 (league wide), but at least it should be that division winners are only guarenteed to get a spot (not top 3 spots).

[Although looking at the way Ottowa pounded Pittsburgh, I'm not sure I want the Pens playing them in the first round either. :cross: ]

Good thing the Islanders aren't going to be their first round opponent either based on tonight.

Although my team is playing (Pittsburgh) vs. the Islanders tonight, I might have to watch the Sabres/Caps...sure to be a awesome game with both teams tied with 84 points and gunning for that 8th spot.

[My other slogan for the night is "Go WILD".]

That didn't work, unfortunately.

They have struggled against Philly, lost some recent games to non-playoff teams...who'd they beat up on during that streak? Beating the Rags twice is about the only impressive part. Half of those games were against non-playoff teams or Florida (division leader) and other bottom of the playoff picture teams. I really haven't been impressed with the Pens this year. Somehow, they've managed to get a decent record together, but I really don't think they have it to win the Cup, no matter what Idiot Eddie and the rest of the Root/NBC crew says.

Let's see. Since Feb 1st, they beat: Toronto, Boston, Jets, Tampa Bay, Philadephia, Rangers, Tampa Bay, Columbus, Dallas, Colorado, Phoenix, Toronto, Florida, Boston, Rangers, Devils, Jets, Nashville, Devils. That's 12 of the other 29 NHL teams and 18 wins. They lost to Toronto, Devils, Montreal (SO Loss), Ducks, Sabres (there likely opponent in the 1st round :) ), Philadelphia (OT Loss), Senators, Islanders. That's 8 teams and a total of 6 losses and 2 OT/SO Losses.

So, their record since February is 18-6-2, with a 11 game win stretch and a 10 game home winning stretch (just stopped with the loss to the Islanders).

Philadelphia's record since Feb 1? 15-10-2, including losses to the Islanders, Rangers, Detroit, Edmonton, Sharks, Boston, Florida, Tampa Bay.

I'd say that Pittsburgh looks much more playoff ready.

9 of those wins are against non-playoff teams. Phoenix is garbage and may not make the playoffs, same with Dallas. Only 4 of those have 90+ points in the standings and it took SOs to beat Dallas and Florida. Real impressive.

Beating the Rangers twice, once in a shutout is impressive since the Rangers have been this good for most of the season. Other than that, Boston had been in a bad slide during the month of March. Florida is a gimme as a division winner and they'd be at the bottom of the overall playoff picture if it wasn't for the freebie spot.

And again, 6 of those losses are against teams won't make the playoffs. Buffalo probably won't if Washington can win a game or two because they'll have the tie breaker. Pittsburgh is second in the league to NJ in SO wins with 9. That's almost 20% of their wins. They are 7th compared to Philly's 3rd, St Louis in 2nd, and Rangers in 1st in ROWs.

For Pittsburgh to pass NY or Buffalo to pass Philly, I think you're a little too optimistic.

So, their record since February is 18-6-2, with a 11 game win stretch and a 10 game home winning stretch (just stopped with the loss to the Islanders).

Streak stopped by an arch rival and home streak stopped by a non-playoff team.

Philadelphia's record since Feb 1? 15-10-2, including losses to the Islanders, Rangers, Detroit, Edmonton, Sharks, Boston, Florida, Tampa Bay.

I'd say that Pittsburgh looks much more playoff ready.

And 4 of those losses are playoff teams, one of them Florida, but same thing as above. They also have figured out the goaltending thing they struggled with all season.

Not going to get anything but applause for just showing up. I even heard a commentator say it was the other players fault for stopping short to play the puck. This was not a huge hit, dangerous, maybe. These are the plays they want out of the game, start pulling the "superstars" aside and suspending them, that will sure give the NHL players association something to talk about.

Weather in NJ has been amazing!! Early spring!! Kinda mad I couldn't ride this year (men ride snowboards, not skis)

The hell is wrong with you? Snowboarding's popularity is waning, and for good reason. Too many cases of skootch leg, and having to put your foot back in the binding EVERY SINGLE RUN is the worst.

Real men get out there no matter what, every season. The skiing at Mad River Glen was superb for a couple weeks, you shoulda been there - oh, right, that snowboard thing...

copyright this guy's just jealous of your alta skiing because he's not allowed there! Keep the riff-raff out!

This is about all there is to do in Jersey:

Bluenotes. 15 shutouts overall for the season. Elliott hasn't let one in during regulation for three games now. Be afraid of St. Louis, be very afraid.

Yeah, my opponent in the finals of the fantasy league has him and I need him to look more like Swiss cheese until Sunday.

It won't happen to Crosby though. Ovie got suspended for a charge for leaving his feet earlier this year for three games...not a hit to the head, boarding, elbowing...charging.

Crosby has been knighted as the league's savior and golden boy and they won't do sh*t to him or anyone else on the Pens unless it's blatant crap that Matt Cooke did most of his career prior to this season.

It's evident with this boarding hit, the one Staal put on Coburn earlier in the year. It's ridiculous. As much of a war as it'd be to have Philly and Pittsburgh play at any point in the playoffs, everyone outside of Pittsburgh knows how the ice will be slanted and how frustrating it will be for Flyers fans to watch and listen to the ****** broadcasters deep throat the Pens every game.

Homercidal I hope to see your Ferris State Bulldogs in the NCAA National Championship against my Gophers on April 7th!

That would be my choice as well. Our controller is trying to decide between BC and the Gophers. He's from Wis, but you know BC is a powerhouse.

I think it would be a miracle and a huge lift to the local people if Ferris can pull out a championship. Last game from the CCHA and a small school rather than Michigan, MSU, etc.

The people around here are already pretty pumped. Bulldogs got a police and fire escort when they arrived home on Sunday. Even to get as far as they have has been amazing. They were picked LAST in preseason coach polls.

I would love to see someone like Phoenix or Nashville knock Van****ty out of the playoffs this year. Please, hockey gods, you've been so cruel to me thus far - just let this one thing happen.

Although a VAN/CHI first round would be pretty epic, given what just happened with Keith and all...

I did Alta this past Tuesday (right after they had gotten 40" in the prior few days). Spectactular.

I'm a decent skier (mostly do diamonds and some double d's) but there some parts of Alta and Snowbird that I would need to have Depends (TM) on before I would try. :off:

Nice - gimme another pic. You live out there or something, or just on vacation?

When my extra week of vacatoin kicks in at work (maybe next year), the wife has given me permission to go skiing wherever I want by myself. This is awesome. It'll mean 3 weeks of skiing per year for some sucker who lives in mountainless Toronto.:rockin:

Alta/Jackson Hole are first on the list. Who wins will depend on snow conditions that year.
