So my buddy and I brewed last week and put the brew in the ferm fridge. A day later he stated there were no bubbles or signs of fermentation. This was the first time we racked on old yeast. So we dumped in a new vial of yeast and still two days later no signs of fermentation on the outside.
Today I went over and noticed he had forgotten to put liquid in the bucket that the blow off tube goes to.
How bad of an error is this?

It will probably be OK. Especially if you have fermentation, which should give you off gassing. That would keep any contaminants out.

Contaminants fall, they cannot navigate up the tube. The only way they could is if there was a lot of air sucked into the fermenter.
