Emergence of the "SWAMBO" acronym...?

Chris, I think he was asking about the "A" in there.

Found it. No, I don't think it's a new trend, although I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first time). I'll be damned if I have to type an extra letter! :)

I just noticed the SWAMBO acronym in use by at least one forum poster.

Is this a new trend, in your experience?
If you're refering to my post in the Weird experience thread, it was a typo. But kind of cool that I made you all look it up...Hahahahahahahaha:p

See, I would have conjugated it: SWMBO, SWAMBO, SWUMBO

She Who Must Be Obeyed (a very cool H. Rider Haggard reference, by the way) = SWMBO, pronounced Swimbo. Swambo would be on the way out and Swumbo would already be gone.

Interesting. I've always known it as a Rumpole of the Bailey reference.

Yup, John Mortimer picked it up from Haggard's She to refer to Hilda, Rumpole's wife.

As Chad said, Rumpole took it from Haggard, I'm pretty sure many more of us heard it from Rumpole than read Haggard.

"She" isn't exactly a memorable story (I re-read it 6 months ago). It's main claim to fame is that is was the first "lost land/people". I think the full "she who must be obeyed" is only mentioned once, whereas Rumpole used it frequently.

Heh, the best part is that, no matter what, I still think of that awesome book, "little black *****", every time I hear "SWMBO". I used to love that book, regardless of its controversial past (when I was a kid, I had no idea about that crap anyway). Man, those stupid tigers, they ran around that tree so fast they turned into butter. Awesome!

Not sure I understand the relevance. I'm sure SWMBO is used here more in a week than in the entire run of rumpole. Does that somehow mean it originated here?
