I bought the Edgestar KC2000 kegerator a few weeks ago, and I'm very disappointed in the thermostat range. After doing some researching, I've discovered this is a pretty common complaint for this model. So common that Edgestar has released a video on how to adjust the thermostat to achieve a couple degrees lower.

[ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ch98XhVzqcQ[/ame]

I've installed a computer fan, and while that has helped some, the temp is still not low enough even at it's lowest dial option. I feel like I'm to the point where I want to do this adjustment, but I have also read where many people have killed their thermostats by doing this adjustment.

Have any of you with this model kegerator performed this adjustment? Did it make a difference? Or did you ruin your thermostat as a result? Or should I just upgrade it with a different off the market thermostat?

No, I don't know the exact temp of the beer as I don't have the proper thermometer for that kind of reading, but I know it's not as cold as I would like it. I'd say it's in the forties if I had to guess....

I've not watched the video, but is it a "coarse adjustment" , adjustment, like mentioned in the forum here?

If so, yes you can kill the T-stat, by backing the screw out too far, and little pieces will scatter within the T-stat!

That's on anything with this type of T-stat!

If that is the case, I would do it, unless as you mentioned, the unit is new, and if you ain't happy with it, make them eat it, and get your money back!

That said, I have made this type of adjustments, on these type thermostats, on 2 refrigerators, that work well.

You just need the "stones" to do it, and a gentle, methodical touch and approach to it.

Your call.

It would appear Edgestar is aware of their problem.

Edit: If the latter is the case, and the unit is new, and warranted, they owe you another unit, or a new thermostat, and them footing the bill to swap it out, to relieve you of any fault.

Thank you for your reply!

Well, I got the cajones to do it, and I'm definitely colder...as in I froze my kegs :-/

So, now I'm in this phase of relearning my "new" thermostat dial. Kegs are defrosting, and I have a glass of water in the kegerator testing out my new range of temps. All in all, I'm glad I'm cooling to lower temps. Sucks I froze two kegs, but it appears from reading other forum topics on the subject, they can be salvaged...woohoo!

I'll keep the process updated so other peeps with this issue can have a personal experience to go by...

Ok, I'm back with an update for anyone out there who may need to do this in the future.

I ended up having the "back out" the screw another half turn as I could not keep it from freezing at the initial 2 turns backed out. The extra half turn backed out has turned out to be perfect...wahoo! Thermometer reads about 34 degrees in there. I like my beer cold down here in hot TX.

Follow the video to a T and be patient. It works :rockin:

I bought a new kegerator and it wouldnt go below 42 degrees. So seeing videos i opened and removed the cover box.
Turned the screw ccw 2 turns as it said.
Needless to say that wasnt enough.
So i set knob to max. Let it cool to lowest (now 40) and opened door and quickly turned the side screw ccw until it clicked (that was about 3 more turns) then back a half turn.
Long story short.
When i put the cover box back on the tstat it changed the setting. It seems the tstat body helps feel the temp.
So i drilled a 3/16" hole on side of box (1.5" horizontal from back, and 3/8" vertical from bottom of tstat box). In picture it looks like 5/16" to bottom of hole but its 3/8" to center of hole.
I opened door quickly stuck a 1/8" hex jewler driver through the hole and tweaked the temp.
My kc2000 now runs from 34.9 to 36.1 degrees.
I bought a $8 digital indoor outdoor thermometer from Amazon with a 24" lead, sprayed windex on my co2 line and pulled ot 6".
Taped bulb to hose and pulled hose and wire insiďe.
I use scotch tape and tape the probe bulb to the keg.
Windex was handy and not smelly or oily.
I also used a 1" pvc elbow to mount my tap tower cooler. I ran the wire thrrough with the co2 line using windex.
