This may sound stupid, but I don't see what the harms is........

What happens if I add my sparge water to my mash-tun before draining the original mash-in wort?

This would simplify transferring water between pots, having multiple pots etc.

I do a single infusion partial mash with 6lb grain...so..
7.5 qt mash-in for 60 min
then add 12 qt sparge water
then drain the whole thing

Nothing. It's called no-sparge brewing. You might have to adjust your grain bill to account for a loss in some efficiency. I've been brewing this way, and calculate about 56-60% efficiency.
