More newbie questions:

Is there a good reason not to use a regular 4-prong, 30 amp, dryer cord from the dryer 220V outlet to a spa panel and then another 4-prong dryer cord to the control panel?

Thanks,
TC

Sure, if you don't need to split the 220V into a 110V, then you don't need the neutral. It's not that much extra cost to have the neutral in the mix and you can always find something that's 110v to plug into the outlet.

If you need 110, you need a 4 prong, right? I ran 50 amp service to an outlet mounted to my garage wall. I wired a 50 amp range cord to the spa panel to plug into that outlet. I installed a 50 amp oulet in the spa panel that is powered by the output of the GFCI breaker. The control panel plugs into that outlet in the spa panel. Makes the whole thing portable.

Okay, so if the dryer cord is 4-prong, then not only will it work but I'll get 120V in the panel, too, to run pumps, etc. I'll go with a 4-prong dryer cord.
