Got the hops for the dry hopping someone suggested to me last week. 2 oz of cascade (suggested to me by the LHBS). He said add 1 oz for 1 week to the secondary. Is this ok? Should I only use 1 oz or should I use 2? Should I wait until one week before I plan on kegging? Or, should I do it now for one week then pull the hop sock? Or can I just leave them in the 2ndary until I keg it four or 5 weeks from now? Any suggestions? Should I use all 2 oz?

Very good. 1/2 of the package for the next 4-5 weeks is easiest for me. If you say so, sounds good. I will let the thread set for a few days before I drop em in to see if anyone objects.

I've dry hopped 3 beers, all with 1 oz pellet hops, and the one that came out with maximum hop aroma was my first dry hop where I just dumped the hops into the carboy for 10 days. The other two I added hops to a hop sock because racking was a complete PITA and let sit for 7-10 days. Could the hop socks be reducing the amount of contact the hops have with the beer and reduce the efficiency of dry hopping?

For a pale ale I usually use 1oz, an IPA 1-2oz, IIPA too damn expensive now. I put them in the secondary and rack ontop of them, then leave them till I bottle.

Very good. It's an IPA. What I will do is put 3/4 of the hops in, tie off the hop sock at a higher point so there is room for the pellets to breath, and I will attach sanitized dental flos so I can agitate the hop sock every once and a while. I will add the hops 10 days before I am ready to keg and just before kegging, I will pull the sock out by the dental floss.
