I'm pretty new to home brewing (7 beers and 1 mead) and took about a five year hiatus to have kids. I never really loved any of the brews that I made (all extract). My preferred style is IPA and I decided to pick back up and give it another try by brewing Northern Brewer's Dead Ringer. Everything went great on brew day and since - gave myself enough time, good pitching temp, fermentation at a steady ambient 64 degrees, followed the recipe to the exact specifications...except no I didn't. I have two packages of Centennials left for dry-hopping instead of one. I only added one ounce during the five minute add instead of the two in the recipe. My question is should I throw them both in during the dry hopping stage or just add the one as stated in the recipe? How much of an effect will this have on the taste? I really wanted to make a homebrew that I could reasonably compare to another beer to see whether I'm close or not. Thanks!

If you like dry hopped beers I'd add one ounce for a 4-7 days in the secondary, and then add the other ounce for another 4-7 days. It won't do much for bitterness but will give you lots of hoppy goodness.

Okay, cool. Thanks for the advice. I'll stagger them in the way that you describe and see how that goes. It might turn out for the best. I think I like my IPAs less overwhelmingly bitter anyway.

I just did a dry hop for the first time.
I put 2oz of citra directly into the primary after fermentation was complete. I then let it sit for 5 days and then right into a keg.

It turned out great. Way better than I expected. If you like less bitter and more hops then I think you will really like how yours turns out

Thanks,
Cam
