Hi all, I just brewed the Rye P.A. partial mash kit from Northern Brewer, it is vigorously fermenting in my closet as I write this. Brew day went great, except I’m a bit worried about the 5 min addition of 0.5oz Palisade hops. I put them in a tea ball and I think it was too small, the pellets expanded to fill the whole thing and I don’t think the utilization was very good. I have another 0.5oz of Palisade to dry hop with for 10 days. My question is:
Could I add another oz or half oz of something to the dry hop bill to make up for the poor 5 min addition? I can’t get any more Palisade without paying $7.99 for shipping, but I could get something else like Centennial or Cascade locally. I also have an oz of Mt. Hood sitting in my freezer… I’m looking for something with a good citrus aroma. Any thoughts?

I wouldnt think you got poor utilization(as far as aroma?)right. It wouldnt hurt to dryhop any citrus aroma hop you want.

If it was me I would throw some cascade in there. .5 to 1 oz should be great! Or you could get all whimsical on it and dump .5oz each of cascade and centennial. Yum!

I'm thinking I might pick up an ounce of Cascade and pitch half of it with the half ounce of Palisade I have left over. I'm fine with experimenting... I’m confident it’s going to be a great beer anyways, the brew day was the best I’ve ever had by far. Has anybody ever heard of ruining a beer by over-dry hopping?

well...I've had a couple really really hoppy ipa's from brew club members, but they were boiling like 2-4 oz and dry hopping with another 2oz. They liked it, as did a few others, but it was way too hoppy for my tastes.
