I have a half-ounce of 12%AA Columbus hop pellets left over from another recipe. Would this be ok to dry-hop an American IPA with or is the AA too high? Is a half ounce enough to make a difference?

Also, can I put the hops in a new grain bag and then weigh it down? Is there a fear of contamination from the grain bag?

Dry hopping will only add aroma, the bittering is added from the hops during the boil of 60min or more. I say go for it.

Yeah, true. The pellets will dissolve anyway. No need for the bag at all. I thought you were using plugs for some reason.

To answer the second part of your question, 1/2 oz. will make a difference.

I have better results using smaller amounts of several hops, rather than massive amounts of one hop.

Are you saying that if I am using hop pellets in a recipe I don't even need to mess with the hop sack and can just throw the pellets into the wort?

Forgive the naivete of the question...I'm pretty new at this.

Dan
