Going to start a new batch in a week or 2 and the recipe I'm making is my own, but I'm converting from all grain to extract -I realized that I prefer doing extract brews with specialty grains-... any who... After primary and secondary fermentation I'm going to dry hop and want to know what the normal duration of this is... is a week too long?
 
Like many other things in (home)brewing there is not one correct way.
I'm sure that the responses here will be diffrent aswell.
You will probably get answers that range from 2 to 7 days. You will also get opinions that you should do it cold, warm or that it doesn't matter.

My answer? Try it yourself and self and see what you like best. Split batches are a great way to do this.

And to add one more thing, don't do secondary or tertiary. It all stays on the yeast in the same fermenter till it's done.

I think a dry hoping time of three to four days should be fine, longer does not improve anything, based on my own experiences. If you can manage, drop the dry hop in when there is still a bit of fermentation going on, to enable the yeast to get rid of the oxygen that you introduce together with the hops.
 
I'd recommend that you dry hop somewhere between 3 days and forever. I know of one brewery that fastens a bag of hops inside their kegs of IPA where it stays until the keg kicks. That suggests that there isn't a downside to longer dry hop periods. That may depend on the hop variety though.

I'll also agree to forget about using a secondary unless you plan to add something that starts a fresh fermentation like fruits.
 
My NEIPA dry hop schedule is usually as follows based on around 9 days from brew day to keg

Dryhop on Day 2 - smaller dry hop
Dryhop on Day 5 or 6 - Large dryhop once fermentation is finished
Cold Crash on day 7 or 8
Keg on day 9

I leave the hops in primary the entire duration. I dont remove either dry hop charge
