Today as I drove past Dollar Tree, I remembered reading this thread. Scored a couple of big 24 oz glass mugs and some pilsner glasses. The mugs are very hefty, and the pilsner glasses are made from thick enough glass to withstand a bit of abuse (not thin, like the ones mentioned above). Thanks for the tips, fellas!

Thrift stores are one thing, but Dollar stores are sell stuff made in China. Beware of that, who knows the led content?

According to the MSDS, Cascade liquid contains sodium silicate. That's an abrasive...

Cheers!

That sheet is dated 2001, all detergents were reformulated in 2009 to remove phosphates as mandated by law. (I believe it was just several states that mandated it's removal, but the manufacturers adopted the standard on all detergents) I don't know about the sodium silicates, but actual etching on glassware in the dishwasher is fairly rare and is usually caused by using too much detergent combined with high wash temperatures. Most times clouding of glassware is caused by mineral deposits which can be removed by a short soak in a vinegar solution. (use white vinegar, 1 cup to a gallon of water) If you can scrape it off with your fingernail it's minerals not etching. Paint will fade and can be damaged by the detergents and temperatures used in most dishwashers, this includes gold and other metallic designs. If you don't want those items damaged wash them by hand.

If it makes you feel better, repeated use should lower the amount of lead thrown off if they did happen to have lead oxide in them :p

i've gotten some awesome glasses at salvation army. two lennox crystal pilsner glasses that are some of my all time faves.

Dollar tree is good... i also randomly peruse the local thift stores. Got a few imperial pints the other day for a few bucks.

Drinking out of glass and eating paint chips seems different to me for some reason:cross: Leaded or Unleaded?

Most of the dollar tree glasses are libbey brand and are made in USA. Well worth the dollar. Mine have lasted a couple years so far.

I got a dozen pint glasses for $10 at walmart but I'll check out $tree too.
