2 months ago I was on here every day and I was brewing twice a month.

Now that work has gone into overdrive (the summer quarter is when I begin a lot of my hard work) and I've joined a band I barely have time to get on here and post two or three times a week.

And, to make it worse, I haven't been able to brew in almost 5 weeks. The last thing I've done that is related to brewing is keg my Kid IPA, and that was 2 or 3 weeks ago.

I'm really hoping this is just a phase, I feel like I've lost a part of me... (there's a little sarcasm in there, but you get the idea...).

Does anyone else feel like this has happened to them?

PS, I feel I should mention our guys fighting overseas right now, as they actually have a legitimate reason to not be able to brew/post on HBT...
:(

It's like any hobby I feel. You get into it initially and the obsession takes over and you get consumed by it. After a while (6 weeks for some 6 years for others) it kind of dies down, maybe you take a break or just slow down. Then it picks back up into a manageable time consuming hobby as apposed to every waking second thus burning you out.

Happens to me. I'm a doctoral student, and the last semester was a bruiser- hardly brewed at all. I'm working up a good stash over the summer to get me through the fall, though my schedule should allow for a batch per month or so... I hope.

I hear ya on the get busy and not make time to do some of the stuff you would like. Kids in sports, remodeling the house, extra yard work in the summer, and the list goes on.

Me too. My brewing has slowed a little bit, but my interest in this site has dwindled. It used to be a great place to learn about brewing. Now it seems it's a place where the same 10 questions get asked over and over again.

I have nothing to add, really - but naming a beer Kid IPA is brilliant. Kid A changed my perception of what music could be.

Edited to add: This thread houses the most enjoyable avatars on this forum :D

I've done this. As projects in and around the house take over I have to take a break. I did a bunch of reading and whatnot, but no real brewing. Then I get back into it with better techniques and equipment.

I will have to stop soon and start working on my Mustang, but I try to do a little something related to brewing a few times a week, even if it's just soaking some bottles in Oxi, or making some yeast starters for later.

Not everyone can afford the time to brew once or more a week. Don't let it get you down. You'll get back into it in due time.

it happens. I have never brewed as often as others on here, but since I have really got into the hobby, I try to brew at least once a month. Last month I did 2 batches in one day, so that made up for lost time.

I tend to go in cycles, but it's more influenced by my back up of brew. When my supply was flush I stopped brewing. Then, about a month ago, I realized I only had three kegs left and none of them were full!

Get used to it, it happens more and more as you get older.

Wait, what? Oh, you mean posting and brewing. I knew that. Yea I go through phases like that. Last year I brewed once a week for a few months, but lately I haven't brewed in almost two. I have a boil going right now, the first in awhile. I realized I had three empty carboys, I have to fill them again!

What he said. I've been brewing for 25 +/- years and it just goes in cycles. I had hardly anything brewed a month ago but when I had to get on the stick to brew for a friends wedding I pretty quickly got all my carboys (15 or so) spoken for. Not counting the 60 gallon barrel we did last weekend. I'm set for a while but I still have an urge to brew.

It's become a fine line for me. When my stock starts to run low, I feel like I HAVE to brew, and it becomes a chore. So I let it go until I feel like it will be fun again, then I start back up.

right now i'm stuck in the heat of the moment and constantly brewing, but it is starting to take its toll. my yard is overrun with weeds, my truck is dirtier than its ever been, and my house is getting cluttered. With school about to start again, I know that I'll be slowing down soon. Hopefully, by that time I will have a nice little stock of beer to get me through the semester.

I started brewing at 20 years old, and now I'm about to turn 37. Some years I brew a lot, some years I am lucky to slap together 1 batch. About a year or two ago, one of my brewing friends stepped up to all grain, and he inspired me to do the same. So then I find this forum, and now I've built 2 kegerator and a 3 tier stand. Just got my grain mill. I'm kind of back in the heat of it, after having dabbled in brewing all these years.
But just like my vintage motorcycle habit, my interest comes and goes. When I got a new Bonneville, I was all over the forums absorbing ideas and information to do performance mods, now that the bike is where I want it, my interest in the forum drops.
Yes it happens to all of us.
