He also stated he was going to put it by the fireplace to keep it warm and happy... .
Yep I wonder the grain bill as well.
I'm guessing that they buy the grain from somewhere. The hops are probably home grown based on what they look like.
The yeast did look like slurry from a previous batch.
I think it would cool to hang out and drink with those guys. I'd be interested in fishing with them also.
My guess is that he gets his grains from the Brew Shop in Homer. Otherwise he could order bulk and/or get grain from one of the breweries in town. The homestead is not that far from Homer. I was up there two months ago on my honeymoon and drove right past the road to the homestead when we were out sightseeing.
I realized something was up when eiven and eve went to the hunters cabin last season and there was a shot of them in front of the cabin and you could see cars driving in the distance. Lol still a 600 acre homestead in Alaska.
I looked at a map and saw where they live. Then saw where they drive the cattle to the head of the bay, they take them through a damn town just about! I imagined they were much more remote, not just off of the main road...
I still love the show and agree it is minimally scripted, or they're better at hiding it, I think they are just genuinely interesting people to watch. A small part of me died inside though, like when i found out Santa wasn't real last year...
I saw that and it was nice to see these resourceful people making their own beer.
But off topic I have seen them snagging salmon many times on the TV and also have watch on Alaska State Troopers the cops giving tickets to "snaggers". Those homesteaders are not native Alaskans so how do they get away w/that???
