Does anyone have an idea as to what this keg is?

A while back I picked up some ball-lock kegs from a guy getting out of homebrewing. He had one keg that was different. Still ball-lock fittings, but has a different sized hole for the lid. He couldn't find the lid that went with it, but gave me the keg anyway. The hole is more round than your normal corny keg.

Any help in finding a place to get a lid (or even identifying what it is) would be appreciated.

Is there any writing stamped into the side?

I have a 3 gallon Cornelius/Spartan keg that has the same handle and same base. Mine has a 12 pt gas post however which is indicative of Cornelius. That's the general oval lid as opposed to a racetrack or round lid. They're fairly common to purchase and some have additional modifications like a tab for hops.

What's wrong with the lid? If it's not bent, you maybe just need a new oring there if it is leaking.

That lid is a standard lid. The hole in the keg is much more round than the standard.

Believe he inadvertently answered your question though. As he stated the other type of lid is generally referred to as a racetrack lid which is more round.

looks like this might fit. racetrack keg lid - Google Shopping
I have one racetrack keg and the ones I've seen don't look like that. They're oval but have "straightaway" sides. New Race Track Lid for Corny Kegs

I will measure mine to see if I never noticed the difference.

No writing stamped on the sides though?

That lid you're linking to is the standard corny lid. Not sure why it shows as racetrack in your search and not sure why the picture makes it appear round-ish. That's the same lid size as pictured on my keg.

I don't recall seeing anything stamped. I will look when I get back home (I hope) after work this morning.

My lids were the same size. I have a keg where the writing is minimal and is about the same height that the tape is on your keg. Maybe remove the tape or feel across it to see if there is any writing underneath. Perhaps measuring the major and minor axes lengths could help to find a lid.

The keg actually is stamped "cornelius manufacturing" and "spartan" and "sundrop bottling". But Spartan kegs should be standard lids. No ideas.

I’ve been studying the pictures above. I’ve also found just a few similar kegs on the internet, and I think the keg in question above is damaged.
How flat is the top of the opening? It may have been a standard lid, but got badly over pressurized and bent.
I think this could be possible, but I’m wondering about it having bulged from freezing while it was full.

This is what leads me to think it froze and bulged the whole top up and outwards. Notice how the posts point noticeably outwards.

I’ve compared these internet photos to the one above to come to my conclusion.

Maybe @Deadalus can verify with a picture of his.

Definitely think it was a severe over-pressure as @TheBluePhantom mentioned or a freeze like I think.
Notice how “rounded” the entire top of the OP’s keg is compared to the keg for sale on eBay.

Thanks! Honestly, I never even thought about potentially being a deformed keg. But that certainly seems the most likely answer. Especially since all the stamped lettering makes it seem that it should have a standard lid.
