Just a question. I want to bring a few growlers of brew out to the big brew for national home brewers day... basically we are taking over a parking lot and sharing beer while brewing... so j want to fill them the night before and bring them with me when i leave at 5a. Ive only brought growlers home from the bar and drank them that night.so ive never had them longer then maybe 3 hours... so does the carbonation last longer then a few hours? These are the cheap growlers not the thick german ones

Yep, should be good! However after they are opened they degrade pretty quickly. Three days max probably after openage.
Openage is a word!!!!!

not a good idea. the carb will most likely be gone in a few hours. i have a "good german 1", and the carb lasts for about 2-3 days, but on a cheap 1 (and i have 1 of those), it usually is dead the next morning. work may be right, though. i usually fill it up, drink from it, and then refrigerate the rest overnight

I assume (ass u me) that you are filling from your kegs... that being said I have filled growlers from mine and had no problem lasting several days. First... chill your growlers in the fridge or freezer, second... fill them all the way to the top (at the very least cap on top of rising foam) really its okay to lose an ounce or two of beer in order to have basically zero headspace, third... screw those caps on like you mean it!!! No matter how tough you are there is some jerk with better grip strength than you who will twist those caps off like its his job and well, it sort of is if he wants a couple drops of sweet beer for his effort. Carbonating in a growler has been beaten to death, but filling them with carbonated beer and leaving little to head space they will last a couple days AT LEAST. Cheers and enjoy your big brew day :mug:

If you can get them filled as quick as possible, with little to no airspace in them, and get the bottles sealed well, they will last days. I have had some last weeks!

It's all about minimal headspace and a good seal. On 3-20 I picked up a pair of 1 and 2 liter growlers of Stones 15th Anniversery. They were poured with no headspace. That night I drank the one liter and of course it was fantastic.

I brought the 2 liter home and stashed it in back of the fridge. On 4-25 I cracked it open to compare with my clone version, and it was just as fresh and carbonated as the 1 liter.:ban:

That's over 1 month for a growler.

Of course, Stone uses very nice swing top growlers. But I've also gone at least a couple of weeks with screw tops that were sealed with electrical tape.

I have many different growlers of all shapes and sizes. I have never had an issue with any of them holding carbonation for at least a week. I have even carbonated my homebrew in a few of them before. Drank it a few months later and it was great!

I didn't think growlers could hold carb for more than a few days, but if it is properly sealed, preferably with a new cap, it should hold indefinitely.

I was at a local liquor store a week ago, and there were labeled, capped, and sealed growlers that a new microbrewery were selling (forget the name) on the shelf. There were paper covers over the cap, but nothing to aid the seal except the cap itself. They must've been confident of those caps. Haven't tried one to see.

I fill mine with a rubber stopper and a tube going into a picknick tap just like I do bottles, then cap. I have had them last many days out camping.
