I've got some second year hops plants that have exploded in my garden. They have a bunch of cones on them. My question is this; I leave for overseas 8/28. Is 8/27 insanely early to harvest for a wet hop beer and brew on 8/29 when I arrive in my home away from home?

For the record, my hops plants are in Western Montana.

My hops in NW MT are just starting to form cones (3rd year), so I don't know. I'd say if they smell good and look good on brew day then do it! No regerts!

Halifax,
I could do that. I mean, I could have my parents harvest them for me at the appropriate time and save them for me when I come back in June.

Brooksy,
We used to live in NW MT too (Eureka area to be more specific - which I've heard is getting a brewery soon!). For my money, it gets no prettier than that area. I loved lake Koocenusa. Now we are outside of Missoula which is a different kind of awesome.

Heck yes, I heard that the other day. I live near plains now and my cascades are starting to form solid cones. I don't know the ripeness of your plants, but if their like mine then I bet you could get a ripe enough crop before the end of the month.
