I bottled my stout yesterday with DME. 4 5/8 ounces for the 5 gallon batch. How long roughly does DME take to carbonate. Don't know why I decided to use it other then that I've never used DME to carbonate before.
I have found that DME takes a little longer than corn sugar to carbonate and age. The beer is usually pretty good after 3 to 5 weeks instead of two to three weeks. I have used up to 1.25 cups DME, not sure how many ounces this is.
Was my first attempt with DME and since it was a stout I was assured that no color alterations would happen. I just followed Palmer's advice in his new addition for the amount. Figured it would be a good starting place to touch and go.
I was assuming it would take some time to carbonate and age. What I did was that suggestion to put some in a 16 oz plastic bottle and squeeze the air out so its compressed. It was pretty much square... this was Friday and today its now a regular bottle. Not strongly carbonated yet, but after three days I was not expecting this to happen for some time. The lid is on tight... I am assuming there was a leak in it.... any thoughts?
