Hello all,

I'm preparing to bottle my stout (export) this evening using Munton's Dark DME as an experiment. My batch size is 6 gal (US). My question is, How much of this DME should I use to prime my batch in the bottling bucket without creating bottle bombs??? I'm getting widely varying answers from priming calculators from the web.

Thanks!

What was your fermentation/conditioning temperature, and how`much carbonation do you want? Both of these parameters will impact the amount of sugar you need.

Which calculators are giving you variation?

According to beer alchemy, 2 volumes of co2, which is recommended for a stout, requires .8oz/gal of DME if you are conditioning at 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Unless the calculators specifically asked for a conditioning temperature, they probably made some assumptions and that is where you're getting a variation from.
