DIY stir plate

I have an extra rheostat from a light dimmer I was going to install. Think that could work on my stir plate to control the fan??

Rheostats vary drastically in their resistance. So it is nearly impossible to tell, unless you can read the markings on the back for the specs.

Just order a 12v PWM controller, it's much more effective than a wall dimmer.
