Hey guys, last night I kegged my 3 week old IPA. I then put it up to 30lbs, shook it around off and on for 15 minutes then released the gas and put the c02 bottle at 10 lbs. It sat all night and tonight when i got home from work I poured a brew but I didn't have any head on my beer. I assume this is because it isn't properly carbonated which is fine because I read on here that it should take 2-3 days more (right?). Can I increase the pressure at this point to make it ready for tomorrow night, or should I just be patient and wait a couple more days(week?).

Thanks!

Tim

You could increase the pressure to 20 psi and check it in the morning. I wouldn't shake it any more, as it takes some time to settle.

I usually put mine on at 40lbs PSI (without shaking it because I just dont have the room for shaking it around). Sometimes it's ready in 24 hours, and sometimes it takes closer to 36 to 48 hours.. SOunds like you did things right, so just wait another day.. Should be perfect by then...:mug:

It can take more than 15 minutes of shaking. If there is still gas going into the keg you can keep shaking. Also Leave the pressure in the keg.

Since it's probably partially carbonated check a force carbonating chart to see what PSI to use at the temp of the keg for the amount of carbonation you want. Raise the PSI to that level and shake till the gas stops. give it a day or two and it should be carbonated.

I'd never advise shaking, its just imprecise.

If you want to boost carb a beer (also imprecise) just raise the psi to 30 for a day or two then lower to the correct pressure for a few days. It should even out at the correct carbonation within a week.

Or, you can just put at the correct psi and wait 3 weeks.
