For my fourth brew I did a Hopslam clone. I forgot to get ice for my bath so I ran out after boil and did some grocery shopping while there. Put it on ice an hour later. Hit my gravity but I noticed a lot of protein floating around. Did the delay ruin it?

Did you have flame-out hop additions? If so, did they go in before or after the shopping trip?

Biggest things I can think of that a long delay before icing down would cause are some loss of hop aromas and maybe a wee bit more browning.

Went in before but took them out before I left. There was like an inch of settled protein in my hydrometer cylinder.

Thanks y'all. I knew it was protein but there was an S ton so I was worried. Especially with the expensive recipe.

A "s" ton is a good. Everything that dropped out won't end up in the beer. You beer will get clearer faster than it would have anyway.

And leaving hops in after flameout can actually be a good thing for aroma. You would have essentially been doing a hopstand if you'd left the hops in while you went shopping.

15 minutes should've been good for the flameout hops though, right?
