Racked a batch to my secondary fermenter about 10 days ago. Noticed today I had not put the 3 piece airlock back on correctly. Forgot to put that floating dome shaped piece back over the opening. So basically, the batch has been exposed to the air for about 10 days now. It doesn't smell bad, and there's nothing forming on the surface of the wort, but I'm concerned about contamination. My hope is that there was still at least a small amount of active fermentation, and that the Co2 venting through that opening may have kept the air out, but I'm not sure whether to proceed or to just dump it. Thoughts?

Proceed. Don't worry about it. 99% sure it'll be just fine. Don't dump till it tastes bad, and even then, just give it time.

Well,if you had the cap on the airlock, the co2 could've filled the small space inside. Those tiny holes couldn't let much in with at least some co2 in there. It's havier than air,so it tends to settle. & the holes bein around the edge of tha cap means the center post is covered. Microbes & other nasties settle straight down. they're not ninja acrobats.

you're spot on with the CO2 venting protecting your wort, even still, its really difficult with the cap on even with no water/alcohol with no float for contaminants to navigate that maze
