When your recipe calls for part Malt Extract and Part crushed grains. Hence Partial.

PM = Partial Mash i.e. you're mashing some grains for sugar and then adding malt extract during the boil to acheive the required specific gravity.
So for a PM recipe is a recipe that has a partial mash aspect to it.

Partial mash can also be useful for the normally AG brewer with equipment volume limitations. For example: with my current 8 gal BAIB set up, I am limited to a max 14 lb grain bill. This is enough grain to get 1.070-1.075 SG wort, but if I wanted to do some kind of Imperial whatever with an SG of 1.085-1.095, I would have to supplement with DME or LME.

Partial mash in the UK at least can also mean using diastatic malt extract ( enzymatically active ) to mash adjunct grains rather than a mix of extract and malted grain. Confusingly over here DME often refers to the above extract rather than dried malt extract.

these guys are all dorks (except for hunter_la5, he's solid). PM recipe means: Personal Message me the recipe, please. I'll brew it, but totally different then praise or slam you depending on if I like/dislike the changes I made to the recipe.

Wow! Now I feel so awkward I didn't know the Hipster Lingo.
Guess it's time to go off-line and make beer instead.

Hipster.

It means precipitate metric. All your measures must be done in the baseless metric system while it's raining to get that all natural fly sparge effect.

no wonder I have problems sparging my flys. I've been using inches and turning on the sprinkler. my buttface is red.

Stop messing with the OP you guys.

It means private mash. It's when you dangle your privates in the mash to provide additional enzymes and flavor compounds. It's a very common practice.
