Some of you are old enough to get the reference. 109F yesterday and the weather guessers are saying 3-7 degrees hotter today! I'm watering every morning, but it's not looking good. One more hot day, then down into the 90s, so I hope the damage doesn't go past the three bines that are toasted.

109F is 6 degrees above the previous record for the day and 26 degrees over the average high.

On the plus side, the blackberries are swelling up like a Promise Ring girl.

I've had trouble last year when we got into the 100's. No matter how much I watered plants they just could not take it up fast enough. I had to rig sunshades to protect them during the worst periods.

we have had alot of 100 deg. days, but thanks to the trees on the west of our yard they get shade in the P.M. and are doing great. My 5 yr old calls them my happy hops.:p

hope yours make it.

Yooper - Started the month in the low 40s, we came within 4F of the record low. For the last 18 months, the temperatures have exceeded average highs and average lows every month. Had a day in June where it went from freezing to 90F. Got our 0.41" of rain for the month in a 2-hour period.

Less weather, more climate, please.

It's been a heatwave here too until recently. I watered regularly and it just did not seem like there was much hope. I forget why but, for some reason I switched to 1" of water a week and the hops bounced back nearly overnight.

Now, I am fighting the caterpillars.

We've had rain about every other day on average past couple of weeks and my hops are bursting with flowers. I may have a bit of insect damage near the bottom, but I"m letting it ride at this point, and I've seen a few lady bugs climbing around, so hopefully they are taking care of it.

Looks like the rest of the plants made it. My neighbor's grandfather grew hops, so there are feral plants in the ditches. They are all toast.
