Hoping you all can help me figure out what is going on here. I have a 1 gallon batch of wild yeast hard cider that has a distinct layer on top that is darker, clearer, and slowly growing (a few mm per day), see pictures below:
For a little background, this also happened with my very first batch ever, a 5 gallon wine yeast cider. I wasn't sure what it was so I racked everything off the bottom and tossed the top third or so of that batch. But now that I'm seeing it again I hope I can solve the mystery...
