I'm looking forward to this year a lot more than last year. Last year I think I "did it wrong." I was with a couple other guys that were both noobs (and aren't on TB/BA/etc) like me and wecdidn't really know what we were doing or have a group of people to hang with so we just kind of wandered around, paid a lot of money for tap beer and food, and drank the beers we brought. We shared pours in line to get in and in the bottle line and with a few random people in a very "transactional" nature, but after we went up to 1 tasting table and were told it was a "private" party we didn't really try to join up with any groups of people even though we had plenty of stuff to share. I'm hoping this year will be more about sharing and getting to know new people vs just trading pours and going our separate ways.

I got GA because I'll buy 1 pour of tap DL and have had all the dark lord I need for the year and then some.++

I would recommend finding biglobo8971 or us (or one of the other awesome groups), we usually each have a pretty sizeable group/tables/tents etc on either side of the fest (a lot of us bounce between the two, our group has a lot of casual beer people haha).
You just need to find the right group of welcoming/laid back people. don't let the dbags get you down.

I'm sure things will start going uphill and downhill at the same time once I find clintonpuckett

So I'm bored at work and that means more questions. Some have suggested that the tap lines (or guest tap lines?) are not worth it.

Is this because the taps are that underwhelming or because the bottle shares are that much more awesome?

To expand upon what others have already said, the lines were slow last year compared to 2013, but did move at a decent clip. I found it best if I wanted a new beer to try, to just get in line and as I got close to the front choose what looks good. Things rotate out a lot, so don't bank on getting a specific beer if the line is long. Waiting for a specific beer to be possibly tapped is idiotic.

My brother was wearing his Red Wings sweatshirt last year. So aside from the people we waited in line with, we mostly shared beers with whatever random Blackhawk fan approached us to talk ****.

Mostly true, but last year after a certain time in the afternoon you couldn't bring bottles in. Not sure what the incident was that led them to this, but I remember I had to make the hike back to my car to drop off a couple bottles.
Assuming there still is a bottle share. No one's talking about the "No Coolers" rule in the FAQs. Does that mean no beers inside the fence this year? They stopped anyone from bringing more in a round 3 last year. Maybe the city got tire of allowing this thing? This could be the last year anyone gives a **** if they don't.
That was my point. I'm trying to feel out the crowd and find out if anyone knows A) Why they stopped the share last year, and B) If the share will be allowed inside the fence at all this year.

no idea about this year (and would guess most people don't)... but the feel from the people at the gate last year was sort of like a "last call" kind of thing... like the party was supposed to be over in a few hours and ********* were still carying in ******* bag of BT and **** ;)

who knows what they will do this year, but i really think they will try all they can to at least allow (if not promote) bottle sharing, they know that's a huge part of it. they will always draw a crowd to sell their damn beer, but the money-spending frenzied mob is led by the the people not going there for DL. they need to stay cool, ya know?

Right. If not for bottle sharing, no one is paying for tickets to see ****** metal bands and the right to purchase dark lord bottles. If sharing was no longer allowed, they would have to sell bottles out of the brewery and discontinue the event.

I was hesitant to even buy GA until CoC news leaked.

CoC news? As in Corrosion of Conformity? Apparently I have missed something super important and awesome.

*EDIT*
If the rumored bands are true in gonna be in heaven! Pallbearer? Obituary? CoC? Crossing my fingers and hoping this is true.

No kidding. I don't know anything about CoC but I'm glad that they stepped their game up with regards to the bands this year. Are any of the other groups worthwhile?
CoC are awesome stonerish metal. Pallbearer are awesome doom metal. Obituary are awesome death metal. Death and doom metal are acquired tastes. CoC are more accessible.

Assuming the rumors are true.

YES IT'S TRUE.

You will get CoC at DLD. From what i hear, there will a lot of CoC there, you can probably get all you want/can handle. and just when you think they are done, more CoC will come your way, right in the face.

They're also making a special lambic-syle beer, CoC geuze, and you can drink some if you want , straight from the bls!

Word. But, to be honest with you, I don't know the difference between death metal, stonerish metal and doom metal. Too bad they don't have any rappers. That's my jam.

I got an e-mail from the events group that says while no hard coolers are allowed, backpacks full of beer are fine .... so, standard operating procedure, at least at this point. She was also able to confirm $20/bottle and no packaged sales on-premise during Saturday, but was NOT able to confirm the bottles are 750ml this year.

Also, no T-Swift this year. Here's to crossing our fingers for the next go around.
