I will be ISO of this place called Jimmy Johns. Never been.
JJ is easily the best chain sub sandwich around. #11 with avocado FTW.

Guyz we all know Potbelly is the best chain sandwich shop in Chicago. Period.

Wreck on wheat please!

JJ is just a more expensive, not as good Subway.
Whoa whoa whoa there.... until potbelly steps up their bread game, they will always be second class.

JJ is the tits. Unadulterated/untoasted goodness.

Wreck on wheat is good ****. JJ is better tho.

And there's 100 local spots better than them both.

When did this become TalkFood?

For the DLD noobs out there here's a pro-tip. This will be the biggest bottle share you've ever been to. When someone opens up something rare don't be the hungry puppy running over to that person, jumping up and down with your tasting glass. Most of these people will be strangers you just met via another person or someone completely random dick swinging a 3L bottle. Take a chill pill as this is a marathon of a day and not a sprint. You don't have to try every beer. If you really, really want to try that one beer and the person is a complete stranger then introduce yourself. If that person says "no, it's for my friends" then don't feel bad. It's bound to happen so just roll with it. Relax, be friendly and you'll be surprised what beers get opened up around you.

so much this. Also, at tasting tables. It is totally cool to walk up to tables and join (in my eyes). Pop a bottle, offer some to people, or announce what you brought "hey guys, here is a _______", then start making friends. DO NOT just walk up and start eyeballing bottles like your window shopping. It's just plain ******* rude. Meet people, let people meet you, introduce your beer to people, get introduced to other people's beer, touch pee pee's later = great tasting.

So genuine question:

How much n00b tolerance is there here? At least one person in my group is a craft beer drinker but has zero involvement in the whole "beer culture" phenomenon online. No BA, no TB, no CCBE, etc. Just appreciates good beer and has little experience with "rare" beer, "walez," big bottle shares, etc.

On a scale from little kid brother to total pariah, what are we looking at here? How many eye-rolls per minute if he doesn't even know what Heady Topper is?

That's actually refreshing because he won't care what are whales and what are shelf beers. I'm assuming he'll be genuinely excited to try any beers that are new to him which will be cool. Seeing someone have the same reaction to a KBBS that they would to a BCBS is a cool thing IMO.

Agreed, I would say not little kid brother. More like a new employee. You know, show em where the pisser is, where the fridge is, where you can smoke, where you should park, and the girl that everyone in the office has had their way with. You know, the general nicey nice.

Good to hear. I didn't want to have to coach him through any secret handshakes, so to speak.

My friends that I go with are in this camp. Everyone we've met has always been friendly even if they don't know what the latest insta-wale is and most times the conversation isn't about beer anyway.

I love new people, unadulterated opinions and unjaded, virgin enjoyment.

in the same vein as "don't be upset if someone doesn't want to pour you something", don't be upset if someone turns down your beer you offer. you will literally try as many beers as you want, all of pretty high quality, so you will have to turn down things sometimes. it's cool man, we'z all drinking, it's all good.

also protips:
Have a spare taster in your pocket. You don't want to just starting on a nice pour of vanilla rye when someone offers you FouFoune and your glass is full. bam, pull out that spare MF and double fist for a bit.

A sleeve of disposable cups means you'll be everyone's friend, believe it or not someone will bring one glass, break it at 8:00am, and be sad... save this man!

Water and bread. WATER AND BREAD. (complementing with meat/cheese recommended). rinse your glass (and drink the water) after most tastes!

clintonpuckett will pour you fantastic whiskey in greater volume than the beer samples you've been having. this will change the vector of your experience. enjoy but keep some sort of pants on.

don't forget the corkscrew. again.

Be prepared to stand in line... i hate lines/crowds, but it's just part of it. be with friends, think of it as a semi-mobile tasting, and DO NOT BE IN A HURRY. IT is not an efficient process, but it can be a fun one.

The tap list/lines are tempting, but it's often a fools errand. you can burn the whole day waiting for vanilla bean to go on tap and miss some awesome beer (and more importantly hang out time) outside.

The half-life for porta-potty quality is about 45 minutes, starting at 8am.

If neorunner hands you an unlabeled vial, do not drink its contents.

Friday night is half the fun, pick a good spot to hang.

Last year was my first and we met a lot of cool people and shared a lot of great beers, mostly in the lines though. I was sort of wondering what the standard etiquette is for the tables inside. If you bring a nice bottle or 3 and set them out it's it cool to stroll through and taste a few things. Also as far as the tables just outside the gates on private property, how private are those tables? Is it cool to introduce yourself, pull out a bottle and join in?

I've got some decent beers in the cellar but not whalz by any stretch. I just don't want to be "that guy".

I had the big private table outside the gate on the private property. I will be easy to spot. Come say hi, kick off your shoes, and stay awhile. You might have to put up with jeblikesbeer , but other than that, it will be a damn good time.

99% of table etiquette things can be solved with a "hey dude, awesome beers, would it be ok if i tried a couple?" even better, add an "and i brought a *cool beer here* to share/leave on the table too, if you'd like to try that". that, and don't open someone else's bottle, unless they ******* tell you to.

Just don't be the **** stick that waddles up, doesn't say a word, grabs 6 ounces of the rarest beer on the table and walks away before they drink it.

we all brought beer to share and to meet/talk with cool people. just do that, be generous, and don't be a prick and you will be 100% fine.

Thanks, we have some decent Michigan stuff to bring, a few things from Ohio, plus I'll probably grab a growler of DRIPA and Creme Brule from Kuhnhenn the day before.

I'll make sure to come and introduce myself and my friend Bodhi.

Is the Assassin game building a good roster? I would like to join. Good way to meet you peeps.

Assuming there still is a bottle share. No one's talking about the "No Coolers" rule in the FAQs. Does that mean no beers inside the fence this year? They stopped anyone from bringing more in a round 3 last year. Maybe the city got tire of allowing this thing? This could be the last year anyone gives a **** if they don't.

the rules have said no coolers since like 2-3 years ago.

they won't stop the bottle share if they can at all help it. they are having hundreds of bottles of the best beer in the world brought/opened for FREE, attracting tons of damn cash.
DLD would likely fizzle without the bottle share (i sure as **** wouldn't go, i can share beer and not drink dark lord at home!).
