Anyone brewed a Dark Lord clone that they feel like is close to it? I'm all the way in AZ so no DLD for me, but I'd love to fire up the burner on DLD to brew one.
Maybe someone can bug them for a recipe? :)

There is a recipe on the first page of this thread.

True but I'm not sure he's brewed it. I also heard that the FG was even higher than his. I may need to sacrifice (well I'll drink it after the experiment) a couple ounces to get the FG reading, will need to let it degass and warm up though.

Yes, it hasn't been brewed and I can't find anyone who's brewed that recipe so its pure speculation. It also doesn't line up to be enough fermentables to make a 13% ABV stout, much less one that has a FG rumored to be in the 1.050 range.

I hope everyone has a great time tomorrow, I'm trying to work brew day to psuedo honor DL day since I can't make it. I won't be brewing DL, but honoring beer no less.

A friend of mine is a neighbor to a 3F employee. Apparently, Stone Brewing is a guest brewery and will have like 16 different kegs there. One of which will be their 2006 Brandy Barrel Aged Double Bastard Ale. I can't wait to try that!:rockin:

Wow that's cool! I wish I had all day to hang out there, unfortunately I have plans tomorrow evening so I'm gonna get there around 11 and have to leave around 4. I'll just have to get a couple pints early. I never drink more than 3 pints a day on weekends (less on weekdays).

Any body have pictures from DL DAY?

One of the first things I saw when I got there was this fella walking out holding his case of DL by one hand. Of course the bottom blows out and a bottle hits the ground and shatters. He dropped to his knees and started licking it, which I tried to get a photo of but my phone is slow...that's him in the upper left. But right after this picture he picked the case up by one hand AGAIN. There went the rest of his bottles...right on the ground. He stormed off leaving a trail of profanity and my buddy went over and checked the box and there was still one good bottle in it. By then he was long gone, so free bottle for my buddy.

I saw this too. Poor guy. I was carrying mine close to my chest with two hands for safety, but still I would've been pissed. The box failing was probably from a bad tape job by 3F.

When I got my bottles they were telling everyone to carry the box by the bottom. I transferred mine to my bag with padding, long walk back to my car. Once I got to my car though there were lots of spots open near the brewery so I drove closer, took a milk crate and collected some nice 22 oz bottles to re-use :)

I was in line right there when it happened. It was a sad sight.

Here's one of me holding the Gumballhead Cat

Did you guys see "The Dude" while there? That was pretty amusing. Anyone else try the Dark Lord '08 w/ vanilla aged on oak? I just can't say enough bout that one, I loved it!

That was VERY tasty. I wanted to stay, but feared the wrath of the wife if I would have. Good time.

Conpewter, what time did you get in line? I got there a little before 9:30 and was in the cauldesac.

I got in line around 3:15 pm Since I had tickets I was guaranteed to get bottles until 6 pm. I got in line near the brick wall, probably 10 minutes waiting. I had been there since 11 but was in line for the samples and then stayed in line for hours to get into the brewpub.

Maybe, but either way he was carrying it with one hand. Those boxes were made up of two thing...cardboard and tape. Neither of which I trust $60 worth the beer with.

We did this same thing...just hung out and drank beer all day. Then when the line died down around 4 we jumped in and had our beer within 10 min.

I must say I am very jealous of all those who got to make it to DLD and try the beer. Next year I am going to try to sneak a trip in if classes cooperate...

That was me.

Conpewter: Was it a blueberry porter? I had one of those from someone walking around.

No, my black pearl porter (original recipe by biermuncher). There was someone from "The Inebriati" (spelled something like that) walking around handing out their card and samples. Apparently a homebrew club in the west suburbs.

Here's a few pics.

Spent several hours in line but it was a blast anyway. Very relaxed atmosphere with many people sharing different brews. It was my first year and I didn't know what to expect so it was a learning experience as well . Next year will be better thought out for sure. Along the curb people were lining up empty bottles from all over. There must of been 30 -40 different bottles. I meant to get a pic but forgot.

that picture of the last guy in the kilt is one of the guys from Free The Hops, the Alabama crew dedicated to getting their crazy beer laws modified. His name on Beer Advocate and Rate Beer is Uncle Jedi, good guy and his crew was handing out samples of Olde Towne Hefeweizen and Good People Oatmeal Stout both of which were very impressive.

Anyway had a great time, got some great feedback on my homebrew from B.O.S.S. (Brewers of South Suburbia ?) and the Inebriati homebrew club guy with the cardomon beer. Traded 2 bottles of 09 dark lord for an 08 and an 07 plus got some Pliny the Elder for some New Glarus beers. All in all a great day, next year maybe name tags so HBT members can say hey.

Cheers!
