Dale's Black Ale

So i found a clone recipe for Dale's Pale Ale, and wanted to take m first attempt at messing with a recipe. So i am thinking for the Fall maybe make a Black version - kinda like a black ipa but with a pale ale. So - can anyone tell me a dark grain i can add or replace something in the recipe to darken it up, but not do a major change to the flavor?

65% Maris Otter
29% Munich
6% Crystal 60

Add a few % of some sort of debittered black malt. Carafa Special 3, midnight wheat, or black prinz malt. Use an SRM calculator and check the color.

You could also use something like sinamar.

Any pointers in a dark grain to use? Won't sinimar affect the taste?

Any of the three mentioned will work, they were all made for the purpose of darkening the beer while adding little flavor. (in larger amounts, you will get some chocolate/roast flavor from them, but its quite mild) If available, Id go with the midnight wheat. I prefer that one.

Sinamar is pretty much food coloring made from malt, it has pretty much no flavor to speak of.

I have some sinamar that I got from Williams Brewing; I will frequently add some at bottling to a few bottles just for variety. It adds a little flavor, but not much. You could just get some, and add 2 ml to a glass and then pour in a Dale's to see what it's like. I've done this to make instant black ipa's. It's a very low risk way to make a dark/black beer.

Sinamar pretty much smells like molasses.

Would you reduce the Marist otter or the music Malt to add the black malt in?

Its 2-3% or so. It doesnt matter, lets say the marris otter.
