Custom Work Boots

Hey guys,
I work in the heavy duty diesel industry at a mine. I wore through a pair of Red Wings in 5 1/2 months and am working on a pair of Danner Quarry's right now. I am leaning towards White's Smoke Jumpers in steel toe and maybe metguards. I have considered Nick's and Open Road Custom Boots but with a majority of coworkers swearing by White's I am leaning that way.

Guess I forgot to include a question haha. Does anyone have input negative or positive for White's or any other custom boot maker? Such as why one is or isn't better than the other?

Good luck! I am also considering some boots, but my needs are very different from yours. I will likely buy some cheaper more generic work boots that can also double as winter yard work (shoveling, snowblowing) boots. The pair I am currently using are many years old and the fake leather has cracked from taking them caving a few too many times 10 years ago.

I just have a pair of steel toe wolverines I picked up on sale at sears. For just factory work though they do pretty well, just get covered in oil every day. I hardly ever need to use them outdoors so my input doesn't really matter haha. I can usually get away with buying a new pair every few years.

Not a big deal. I appreciate the input either way. The reason I need something a little more hardcore is we work in -40 in the winters and up to 80 in the summer so life is hard on my stuff.

I've never owned a pair of White's, because for what I used to do I couldn't justify the expense. But, they got rave reviews from people I know. I've heard they're used by wild land firefighters, so there's that. I haven't heard of the other companies you mentioned.

Nick's is a White's competitor in the same area they are. Open Road is a custom one man shop in MN thay I found by way of YouTube. Same type of boot as a White's but supposedly even better quality.

Working In commercial HVAC for the past 14 years I have to say red wings where the 2ed worst boots I have ever purchased. All hype nothing delivered.

Currently I am on my second pair (in 4 years) of Wolverine boots.

That's impressive. I've heard since RW is no longer US made their quality has noticeably gone down. My pair made it 5 1/2 months and are dead.

I can add that if you go whites go custom fit. Expect to pay $500 plus.

I know the cost and have tried a pair on just haven't committed the coin yet

Wolverine factory is just down the road (45 minutes??) from my house. I've never had their boots, but I hear lots of people say they make good stuff. I own a pair of Merrel hiking shoes that I love, but I only use them 2-3 times a year usually when hiking on Manitou Islands. They make that brand too I think.

whites. They are head and shoulders above anything I've worn. Fought fire with them for a couple years, then used them as hiking boots and work boots. They still don't show the wear. Best thing is that they're fully rebuild able.
