I had this bad boy fabricated for me. I wanted it so I could use my 7.5gal Blichmann G2 Boilermaker on the Blichmann burner. Problem was there was a HUGE gap that was going to let a lot of heat through. The pot shipped with the stock heat shield, but I really couldn't get it positioned to where it would work well. Plus there would still be a lot of heat rising around the pot. So I drew up plans and had a friend make it for me.

As you can see from the plans, the enter hole is 11” which is just enough for the pot drop down into the hole. The “front” of the heat shield sticks out 5” giving plenty of surface area to protect the valve and sight glass.

And as you can see from the pictures, there is no gap for heat to rise up along the sides of the pot around the entire perimeter of the pot. There is still plenty of room for airflow out the sides & underneath as this just sits on top of the existing burner legs.

I shortened two of the pot brackets and have them in place to help me easily center it on the burner. I thought about bolting the heat shield to the legs by just drilling a hole in the top of the shield & burner legs. I decided to leave it because 1) I can reposition on the fly very easily and 2) the pot sits down inside the hole and actually inside the stand’s legs which keep the pot from sliding off.

Very Nice! I hate the goofy "shields" they give you. I have the 10 gallon breweasy system with a 20 gallon BK.

Just wanted to update this post having finally tested the heat shield. The heat shield DID NOT work as expected. The stainless between the feet sagged enough that it let heat rise up through. I even bolted the shield to the tops of the legs, but this didn't help.

So I modified it by cutting it down. It's now attached to the leg under the sightglass (in the pictures) and the leg to the left of the valve. In addition I ended up adding a fifth leg halfway in between these two legs (weird I know).

The shield is bolted to the tops of these legs. It doesn't sag anymore and works really well. Not what I had hoped, but...trial and error. I'll post a picture if I get around to it.
