I haven't used either of these hops before and have a pound of each so want to do a citrus/pine IPA. What do you think about the grain bill especially using Maris Otter? Do you think this will give me the citrus/pine I'm looking for?

IBU - 76.7
SRM - 5.9
ABV - 6.7
90 min mash
90 min boil
6g batch

10 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 1 65.6 %
3 lbs Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM) Grain 2 19.7 %
1 lbs Vienna Malt (3.5 SRM) Grain 3 6.6 %
1 lbs Wheat, Flaked (1.6 SRM) Grain 4 6.6 %
4.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) Grain 5 1.6 %

1.00 oz Warrior [15.70 %] - Boil 60.0 min Hop 6 40.5 IBUs
1.00 oz Simcoe [13.00 %] - Boil 15.0 min Hop 7 16.6 IBUs
2.00 oz Ahtanum [3.40 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 30.0 min Hop 8 6.7 IBUs
1.00 oz Simcoe [13.00 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 30.0 min Hop 9 12.9 IBUs

3.00 oz Ahtanum [3.40 %] - Dry Hop 4.0 Days Hop 11 0.0 IBUs
3.00 oz Simcoe [13.00 %] - Dry Hop 4.0 Days Hop 12 0.0 IBUs

thanks!!

I think somethign is wrong with your ahtanum, usually isnt it like 6-8%?

Ahtanum does have some citrus, but its not too potent compared to simcoe. Even 2:1 in your whirlpool I think youll mostly be tasting simcoe. This isnt a bad thing though. If you want more of a balance between citrus and pine maybe look into using amarillo or chinook? or mandarina bavaria for straight up orange

Sorry gents. I used the Beersmith profile and didn't update the percent to match what I actually had on hand yet. Good catches! :)

thanks for the advice. yeah more of balance wonder if I kept the Ahtanum and augmented with some Amarillo? Wonder how that would turn out?

I'll update and re-post.

so here's what I brewed yesterday:

IBU - 79.1
SRM - 5.7
ABV - 6.2%
90 min mash
90 min boil
6g batch

9 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 1 63.2 %
3 lbs Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM) Grain 2 21.1 %
1 lbs Vienna Malt (3.5 SRM) Grain 3 7.0 %
1 lbs Wheat, Flaked (1.6 SRM) Grain 4 7.0 %
4.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) Grain 5 1.8 %

1.00 oz Simcoe [14.70 %] - Boil 15.0 min Hop 6 19.6 IBUs
1.00 oz Simcoe [14.70 %] - Boil 10.0 min Hop 7 14.3 IBUs
2.00 oz Galaxy [14.50 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 30.0 min Hop 8 30.0 IBUs
1.00 oz Simcoe [14.70 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 30.0 min Hop 9 15.2 IBUs

1.0 pkg California Ale (White Labs #WLP001) [35.49 ml] Yeast 10

3.00 oz Galaxy [14.00 %] - Dry Hop 4.0 Days Hop 11 0.0 IBUs (days 1-3)
3.00 oz Simcoe [13.00 %] - Dry Hop 3.0 Days Hop 12 0.0 IBUs (days 4-7)

overshot my post boil gravity from 1.060 to 1.066. I started milling my own grains and got 79% efficiency with a 90 min mash but think I need to go back to a 60 min boil possibly.

with such high AA hops everything was late boil. well lmk what you guys think. should I up the dry-hop? I want it to be high aroma.
