So I think I have a defective regulator but wanted to get the advice of other keggers. I can set my regulator at 10 psi to carbonate my keg and it says true at 10 psi for a few days then I will check it and it will be at 50 psi about to kick the relief value. Is this a defective regulator or is something else going on?

That also happens if the pressure in the kegs is higher than the pressure you've set on the regulator (and you don't have check valves), but not up to 50, that's crazy.

Try killing the gas and not touching it for a couple days. Assuming all your beer is carbed, the pressure "should" stay the same.

There is a lock ring on the regulator. I tried it once with no avail. Should I always use it after the regulator is dialed in?

The keg it still carbornating which is killing me because I want to get drinking the beer. I've heard that there is a minimum length of gas hose to help with equalizing the pressure. Is that true? If so what is the length.

I had the exact same thing going on with mine and I fixed it in about 3 minutes.

1.) Turn off the CO2 and unscrew the regulator pressure knob all the way and take apart.
2.) Inside there is a spring and a black rubber diaphram
3.) Inspect the diaphram for any imperfections (mine had a tiny slit in the very edge)
4.) Carefully remove any imperfections and then press the diaphram back into place making sure the edges are all tucked back in nice and flush with the back of the regulator. Re-install other parts and screw back into the regulator.

I did this about a month ago and it has worked flawlessly ever since. It took me two way over carbonated kegs before I decided to take apart and fix; otherwise I would have wasted money on a new one.

-Good luck

Thanks for the replies. Because the regulator is brand new beverage factory is shipping me out a replacement. Hopefully it will work without a hitch but if not I may try some of these suggestions.

Just to help with anyone reading this post. I did receive the new regulator and that fixed the issue.

Cheers!
Jamie

I'm on my second regulator from beverage factory .... and this one has started creeping and i'm not even through my first set of kegs on this one .... sigh.
