So my friends got me a beer kit over the holidays and I didn't want it to go to waste and have been thinking of doing this combo of bitter/sweet aka Honey Brown Ale mixed with some nice hoppy hops that come inline with my favorite style of beer IPA.

I was wondering if anyone had experimented in this area and if so what do you recommend for bitter hops during the boil and maybe dry hop to add a good mouthfeel to it?

The HBA calls for Northern Brewers Hops then Honey at the 30 min mark finishing off with small amount of cascade hops at the 5 min mark.

I do have some extra hops over from last brew, some warrior , centennial and mt hood..

any thoughts on what I could add during the boil or during dry hopping?

cheers!

i would sub the liquid honey with honey malt so that you can have a honey flavor rather than a thinner beer. as far as the hops i would use warrior for bittering and the other two for flavor and aroma.

i'd suggest using some type of software before you just go throwing things into a kit. that kit was designed to make a specific beer and throwing random things into it may or may not make a good brew. (i learned this the hard way when i first started out.) use the software to either see what adding things to this kit will do to the numbers, or better yet, design a recipe that gets you what you're looking for.

Thanks everyone, Nord, do you know of any software, sorry im a bit new to this, its more of a hobby, I do like to experiment but you are right in certain points, but I also have to say isnt brewing being experimental anyhow.. granted yea my time might be wasted but its fun time :)

there's a ton out there. promash, beersmith, brew pal for iPhone and iPad, ibrewmaster, i could go on, but those are the ones i've used or played around with. i highly recommend finding one you like, software makes creating recipes a breeze, and it helps when brewing any recipe to enter it into your software.

thanks beersmith looks like what I need, still a bit fuzzy on some of the input values but works well so far, might try brew pal since I have both iphone, ipad2..
