Good Evening HBT Folks,
I do not know if this issue has been mentioned before, so if it has I do apologize. I brewed a Pumpkin Ale this past Sunday (9/21). I pitched my yeast and and placed the plastic lid on the bucket and inserted the airlock. Each morning I checked to see if it had started the fermentation processes and nothing. This morning I looked again and notice a couple of what appeared to be Fruit Fly's dead near the airlock. I looked closely and notice that I had 2 very small cracks need the airlock grommet. I immediately replaced the lid with a back up lid. About 20 or so minutes later I had minimal gas bubbling thru the airlock. This evening I have not seen any gas movement through the airlock. My question is - with the gases escaping via the cracks in the lid and minimal bubbling that was witnessed this morning, will this beer still be salvageable without out compromise or am I going to have to start this over again from scratch.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can provide me with assistance in this situation.

It is possible that fermentation was fast for your pumpkin ale, and minimal bubbling may be all you see from here on out. I would let it ride and believe it will be okay. The escaping co2 probably kept contamination out as long as the cracks were small. Good luck!

NTX - the cracks where indeed small. I am hoping this will be a salvageable beer. I plan to follow through with the bottling, fingers crossed. Thanks for the speedy reply
