So i made the Northern Brewer Raspberry Wheat Kit as my first beer. I kegged it Tuesday. Put it in to the fridge and put 20 PSI on it for 48 hours, then turned it down to 11 psiyesterday. The first glass smelled really yeasty, so i dumped it and poured another. I dont think its fully carbed up yet (as i expected). Little to no head. Its more bitter than i expected it to be. Very little raspberry flavor.

When i made my porter, i used a paint strainer when i poured in to primary. I didnt do this with the wheat beer, so i transferred all my hop sludge to primary. Would this be why its more bitter than i expected? Or is this the "green" flavor that i have yet to experience? As for the raspberry, i ended up just using the 4 ounces of extract. I just poured it in the bottom of the keg when i transferred the beer in. Should i shake it up or does the beer siphoning in + co2 mix it up enough?

Thanks

Adam

ps - the fridge is at about 38 degrees. it seems to fluctuate about +/- 2 degrees with the factory thermostat.

ps again - it was in primary for 3 weeks, then transferred to keg

how long did you primary it? seeing as its only been in the keg 4 days i would say its still green and will improve. carbonation will greatly improve the flavor of the beer. shaking the keg will speed the carbonation process dramatically. i keged and fully carbonated my last beer in 30 minutes. just keep shaking till the pressure gauge no longer moves either up or down.

was in primary for 3 weeks. sorry i probably added the edit in my second post while you were reading this.
