Hey guys, i need some help correcting the body of a Sculpin clone i am attempting.

For the mash i have:

2row 83%
Crystal l20 15%
Carapils 2%

And still my body is very light, i am missing the caramel color, smell and taste i find in Sculpin.

i am mashing at 65c for 60 min with no mash out, and i think my problem is here, what do you suggest? Should i raise the mash temp to 67ish? Or keep it at 65c but add a 10 min mashout at 77c?

Or do you think the mash is not the problem, but the grain bill?

Thanks for the help!

Drink too much IPA, you get IPA body!

But in answer to the kind of IPA body YOU were referring to, I'd say your grain bill is a bit bland. I'd sub out some of your pale malt for Vienna. I always use Vienna in IPAs, as it gives a nice bit of malty backbone. Maybe 30% Vienna.

And if you want more body, yeah, I'd bump the mash temp to 68C.
Are you sparging or BIAB/No-sparge?

Mash at 68C. For more color use darker crystal. Try Crystal 40 next time, if you want it darker go with 60. I'm on the opposite side when it comes to west coast IPA's. I like them dry as can be with not more than 5% crystal for color.

I BIAB, ok i will try raising the mash temp next time, maybe with higher temps i can even reduce the crystal amounts
