So, I’m carbonating my first keg (hooray!)
I notice that the pressure drops after a few hours (even with the valve to the keg open, which seems odd). For example, I initially set the pressure to 20psi (it’s a Belgian, so I’m going for 3 volumes or so) I checked on it a few hours later and found that it had dropped to 10 psi, so I turned up the co2 to get it back to 20. Checked on it 24 hrs later and it was down to 15psi, so I turned it up again to get it back to 20.
First question - is this normal? I would expect the pressure to decrease in a sealed keg, due to tempurature lowering and co2 being forced into the beer, but why would it drop if the regulator is set to a certain psi and the valve to the tank is left open? The tank pressure hasn’t dropped, so I’m fairly certain nothing is leaking.
Second question- is it ok to keep turning up the pressure back up after it drops? Will the pressure cycle back the other way for some reason? I don’t want to come back tommorrow and find a 100 psi keg bomb!
