Can Corny kegs be layed down sidways in a fridge?

Yes, but they won't work very well. You'll run the risk of liquid backing up into your CO2 line, and the keg will only empty about halfway.

if it is just for temporary storage, it will be fine. it will even be fine for carbonating as long as you have check valves in your gas line. make sure nothing leaks though, otherwise you will have a fridge full of beer that you will then have to clean up...

If you have a Coke keg, which uses a straight dip tube, you can lay it down if you're careful and make sure the indention for the dip tube is on the bottom. I have done this, but I had the top of the keg slightly elevated for better results. Be sure to follow all the precautions others have mentioned.
