copper solder

A few years ago, my father-in-law made me a pretty nice immersion chiller which I use in my sabco keggle. He soldered the "in" and "out" tubes together. Should I be concerned about any of that solder dissolving or chipping off into the wort, and are there any health issues anyone knows of about that?

it will be fine as long as he used lead free solder. there shouldn't be any big blobs to be able to chip off.

copper waterline even to this day are soldered. I'd trust a soldered copper water line over a pvc water line anyday.

Not to mention if it ever did chip off that you would never drink it since it will sink and be left behind in the many transfers between the boil and the glass.

It'll be just fine, assuming he used lead free solder which he most likely did.

Well, the top of the tubes did come "un-soldered," so there is an "edge" of the solder exposed...

I've been thinking about going to a counterflow or plate chiller, but don't know much about them. Anybody have any strong opinions about them, or a good place to go to find out more?
