Is the 1 inch stainless half coupling from McMaster Carr the proper size to accept a water heater element. I was concerned that the difference in threads may be an issue as well. The couplings are NPT while the elements are NPSM.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I may just have to order the one inch and see if it will fit properly without leaking.

I used a 1" locknut P/N 4464K586 and Silicone O-ring P/N 9396K294. You can probably get away with 1/8 thickness on the O-ring. The one I bought was almost too thick.

i silver soldered a 1" half coupler into both of my keggles (bk and hlt). wrapped in a bit of yellow teflon tape it's dry as a bone. i did apply judicious amounts of torque to them.
