I originally planned on brewing an octoberfest on May 14th. I was going to do a 2 step yeast starter using Wyeast 2308 Munich Lager. I started step 1 on the 9th of May. On the 10th my dad unexpectedly passed away. So this starter has just been chilling in my fridge ever since. Now I think I'm going to brew next Friday, the 27th. Should I start over with fresh yeast? Or should I just pick up where I left off with my current starter?

Thanks

Sorry for your loss. I think your starter will be fine after only a couple of weeks. Just add a bit more starter wort to wake it up the night before brew day.

sorry to hear about your dad

so you have a starter which is less than 2 weeks old, but still 1 step away from where you planned to be? Definitely just jump straight to step 2 and pitch it on brewday

I harvest small amounts of yeast to re-use months later in my starters and they are still viable. Yours is still very, veyr fresh

Sorry for your loss. It has been 20 years and I still miss my Dad.

I have revived starters that have sat for as long as 6 months in the fridge. The longer they sat, the longer it took to wake up but I never had one fail. Go for it.

Thanks everyone. I'll get the starter going again tonight, and brew on Friday as long as the weather holds out.

I second, third, fourth, whatever, everyone else is saying. Get that starter going again and use it.

Also, I know it doesnt take the pain away but, sorry for your loss. My dad passed unexpectedly back in August so I can honestly say, I feel your pain. Stay strong, man. Cheers :mug:
