My most recent brew had 3 bombs (on 9/3/13), and when I cracked them open yesterday, they were way too foamy (all 7 that were opened). Each filled a pint glass with maybe 1 oz of liquid and the rest was foam. Below is the recipe I used for this brew (Oktoberfest Ale, based off EdWort's Recipe):
Grain
6.6 lbs Munich LME
3.3 lbs Pilsner LME
0.5 lbs Caramunich III Malt
0.5 lbs Vienna Malt
Hops
1 oz Tettnang (60 min)
0.5 oz Hallertau (30 min)
0.5 oz Hallertau (15 min)
Yeast
1 Pkg White Labs WPL029 German Ale/Kolsch Yeast
Primary Fermentation: 22 Days 74F
Bottle Conditioned: 2 Months at 74F
Info
Measured Original Gravity: 1.072
Measured Final Gravity: 1.015
Actual Alcohol by Vol: 7.54%
Bitterness: 25.5 IBU
Est Color: 20.4 SRM
For this, I used 1/2 cup of priming sugar (3.5oz), which should give me 2.1 volumes CO2, well below the 3 volumes cap for 12 oz bottles. I'm almost 100% certain the fermentation was finished, I didn't over-carbonate, and the priming sugar was fully mixed. The only explanations left for the bombs are flaws or infection, but I'm still more concerned about the excessive foam in each.
