So I'm planing on going from buckets in a chamber to a free standing cooled, jacketed or coiled, conical. My question is if the room where the conical will be is 61 degrees will there be enough life left in the yeast to bring the temperature up for a D rest or will I need to add outside heat? I usually like to bring my ales up a few degrees towards the end of fermentation also.

What kind of conical did you have in mind? SS Brew Tech has heating solutions for their range.

Regarding your question about the heat capabilities of the yeast. My experience is that when you reach the phase where you wan't to ramp up the temperature, the yeast activity is usually not enough to do it, if the ambient room temp is low.

Heating is super easy (compared to cooling) you dont need a big one just mount it lower on the conical... I use an stc 1000 and just plug a cheap silicone heating strip into it like this, http://www.ebay.com/itm/26mmX1000mm...097638?hash=item418d930866:g:-4QAAOSw6aVUpNCC (the heaters I use on all my conicals are 24v dc though) most temp controllers like the inkbird would work as well and youll already need one to control your chamber so...

I agree with Kim also that the yeast is puckered out by that point. I use stc1000+ units which actually have the ability to slowly ramp up the temp over a couple days and then cold crash it automatically..

I will say that throughout me piecing something together for my brewery you always have a good solution for inspiration. Cheers!!
