I apologise upfront for asking such newbie questions but I suppose we all have to start somewhere.

when a recipe asks us to add hops at different times during the boil should I just pull out my hop bag, add the new hops and put them back in or am I missing something integral?

Dry hopping...lost on me I'm afraid. If I have take from my brewpot and put in my fermenter for 7 days before putting in a demi john for 14 days and the recipe states dry hop for 14 days, what am I supposed to do exactly?

I usually do not use a hop bag in my boil. As for dry hopping you transfer to secondary(you said you are using a demi john) and either put hops in or put the hops in a bag and put them in. Most of the time I just open my primary and throw the hops in instead of having another container to clean. Good luck and enjoy.

Most boils are 60 min. If you hop schedule says add at 60, throw them in at the beginning of the boil and leave them until finished. If they say 15 min, throw them in when you have 15 min left of your 60 min boil. Hope this clears it up.

What you want to do is get 3 different hop bags. (Makes it much easier). You put the bittering hops in the first bag which generally goes into the boil for 60 minutes. Your flavoring hops bag goes in second with anywhere from 40 to 20 minutes left in the boil depending on recipe. Finally you toss in the third aroma hops bag with only a few minutes (generally 5 to 1) left in the boil.

Dry hopping is when you place hops into the beer inside the fermenter after primary fermentation is done. (If you transfer to a secondary container, you can put the hops into the beer at that time in the new container.) Then you simply leave the hops in with the beer until you keg/bottle.

Hopefully the above few posts are completely clear.
