So I'm getting my first kegging equipment and the disconnects are not labeled although some are black and some are gray. Does it matter which goes on the gas vs the liquid side or are the colors just for personal coding? If it matters how do I know which is which?

several people have mixed them up and are a bear to get off once installed on the wrong posts, I just remember the g's go together- grey is gas, same for the b's- Black is Beer, I painted my keg tops with a grey dot on the gas side for easy identification without looking for the small "in" on the rubber or looking for the notches on the post. some of my kegs arent labeled "in" and "out" so the dot helps

Check your posts as well! I'm pretty sure the kegs I got had the keg posts mixed up. They look the same, but if you put the beer (black) coupler on the gas in post, its the biggest PITA to get it off again. Check out this thread for post identification... Difficult time my ball lock coupler

I bought yellow post o-rings and put them on the gas side. That way I'm matching the black disconnect to the black o-ring, and the gray disconnect to the "lighter" colored one.
