I am in the process of my first cold crash of a Lagunitas IPA clone.
Once finished should I return the carboy to room temp before bottling?
Or will that release some of the 'gunk' back into the beer?
I am just thinking that as the volume reduces during freezing, it must expand when the temperature rises.
So bottling at that temp (36f) might help to produce bottle bombs.
Or am I overthinking it.

You won't have any issue bottling at those cold temperatures. There won't be any significant change in the volume. If you use a priming calculator it will typically ask for the temperature of the beer. Don't use the current temperature but rather the temperature it finished fermenting at, otherwise you risk under priming your bottles.

Bottling cold is not a problem, but you will need to let the bottles warm up to 65-75F so the yeast can carbonate them. So it doesn't really matter if you warm the beer in the carboy or the bottles.
